When Dele got up from bed that morning he had no idea it was going to take the special grace of God for him to return back to that bed in one piece. He had had his day planned out already for himself but apparently, the ones with greater powers had something else in mind for him.

The third thing on Dele's to do list was to go visit a friend of his before going to shop for some groceries which was the last and final thing on the list. And so after he was done with the first three things, he said goodbye to his friend before boarding a public transport to go to the grocery store, a journey he wouldn't had embarked on if he had had even just a glimpse of the tragedy that awaited him ahead.

Fourteen minutes into the drive, their bus got pulled over by the police. The bus driver immediately got down from the bus to know what he had done wrong but the officers had immediately asked him to stand aside. Pointing their guns at the passengers, they instructed everyone in the vehicle to get down. Then they instructed the elderlies and the women back on the bus, leaving just Dele and two other guys outside.

One of the officers pointed his gun at the driver and instructed him to drive off. According to him, the three young men looked suspicious and were to be taken back to the station for questioning. The driver had immediately driven off to avoid being shot while Dele and the two other men looked in bewilderment, wondering what the hell just happened.

The moment the bus got out of sight, the officers immediately ordered them to get into their van. They asked them to cooperate or risk being shot, so they did just that. Thirty minutes after driving to God knows where, the van finally came to a stop. The back of the van was opened and the three men immediately shielded their faces from the ray of light. The officers dragged them out to an uncompleted building that looked nothing like a police station.

“Okay now this is what is going to happen. You guys will transfer the sum of 200k to an account that I will give to you in other to be set free.” one of the officers said to the three men who looked tired and sweaty as a result of the tight van they just came out from.

“100k?” Dele asked. He had heard of stories of police officers extorting money from people at gunpoint but never has he thought it would happen to him. “Sir I don't have 100k” Dele said and was rewarded with a series of punches.

“You better look around, there's no one here. We can kill you and dispose your body here and nobody will find it.” the officer threatened. “Okay, how about 75k?”

All Dele had in his account was 25 thousand Naira and that was the money he planned on surviving on until he received his next pay.

“I will pay” one of the other two guys said and immediately brought out his phone.

“How about the both of you, you still don't want to pay?” the officer asked as his colleagues resumed hitting them both.

By the time the officers agreed to Dele's 25k, his body had already gotten a beaten that could last him for a life time.

And as Dele went to bed that night, he regretted ever getting off from it.
