Emeka closed his eyes as he got ready to be enveloped with the eternal darkness that came with death.

When the news of Emeka's death got to the village, everyone went into mourning. Ikenna, the guy who had come with the bad news had quickly gone to call his mom and other women in the village to come console Emeka's mother.

“He was such an hardworking man”

“He was good man”

Words kept flying from here to there on how good and hardworking the late Emeka was. The King had summoned Ikenna to the palace to know the details surrounding Emeka's death and Ikenna had told them. He had told them of how him and Emeka had unknowingly boarded the same bus which was coming to the village from the city and how the bus had been hijacked by armed robbers.

He said everyone gave up whatever it was they had on them, everyone except for Emeka who claimed that the money with him was given to him by his boss to go treat his sick mother. All plea by Ikenna and the other occupants in the bus to give the robbers the money fell on deaf ears, so they shot him. They shot my friend and collected the money from his corpse. Ikenna finished his story as he got consoled by the King's elders who were also present at the palace.

Everything Ikenna said was true, everything except for one small detail. When the bus got hijacked by robbers, Emeka had been more than willing to give the criminals whatever it was they wanted. In fact, he had handed them the money the moment he was asked to empty his pocket. But then when Emeka noticed that one of the robbers was someone he knew from the village, he felt a little bit relieved.

But Ikenna on the other hand was troubled. No one in the village knew what he did for a living and he intended to keep it that way. So he picked up his gun and pointed it right at Emeka before pressing hard at the trigger, twice.

Ikenna had killed Emeka.
