The first time I read about the history of the first man on moon (Neil Armstrong), I thought that he was the only one on-board that particular mission (Apollo II) that went to moon. It was later that I discovered that the spaceship had three crew members (Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin) but why is he the only one normally mentioned? My best guess is because he was the first person to step out of the ship and made contact with the surface of the moon.
Most times, the only recognition goes to the person that blazes the trail while the other people may not be given recognition. Asides this, you will agree with me that there is a special grace (the grace of the early bird) that follows being the first to initiate an idea. This is why, being proactive instead of just reactive is the easiest way to create a lasting impact.
When you always wait for others to initiate an idea so that you will play along will only dwindle the creative ability in you. Right within you, you have what it takes to initiate your own original idea and to blaze the trail in your respective field. If others are setting the pace, finding new paths, blazing the trail, then why not you? Most times, you only need to believe that you have the creative ability for it to manifest.
I remember a particular company in this part of the world that makes milk. At a point, they realized that many people could not afford the large tin container of milk because many people were living below the means. When they considered this, they created an idea of making the milk in smaller sachets which can easily be bought by everyone.
When they started the production, many other big milk companies told them that they are producing milk for the poor. However, when the statistics of people living below average were taken, it was discovered that millions are in this category. Now multiply millions by the small price of the sachet milk and see the excess profits that this company raked in.
The humorous part of it is, other big milk companies that laughed at them for producing milk for "poor people" started producing their own sachet variant just to remain in the market, but of course, the other company has almost taken over the market simply because of blazing the trail. Sometimes, blazing the trail simply means doing a particular thing in a very new and creative way that will make it appear as an entirely new idea.
The complexity in the world is increasing as competition increases and you cannot keep doing something in the same fashion without adding newer ideas and expect to remain in the game. Remember that in the world, you will need ideas for you to be able to stand out because idea is what prevails.
