When you want to go far, you have to locate people going to the same direction and go with them. Many things that happen in the life of someone are brought about by the kind of friendship they keep. This is why it has been said that you are the sum total of the people you relate with. So do not be careless with the relationship you are building today.
The truth is; it is the relationship you build today that your future self (and even your children) will consider as connections tomorrow. If you do not want your life to be fashioned or tailored after a particular individual's lifestyle, it is pointless to make them your close ally. The same way you cannot have a perfect mixture of oil and water, you cannot keep company with someone going towards the opposite direction and expect to experience positive motion.
Your friendship and other association you enter into do not leave your life the same way you entered them - there must be a very obvious impact they will create in your life (which can be either positive or negative depending on who they are). To experience positivity in your life, there is no wisdom in relating with people of negative mindset. Not only will they corrupt your positivity but they will make you to start thinking negativity like them.
When you play around open flames of fire, what do you expect your body to smell of? Obviously smokey. In the same way, the impact your friends have on you is undeniably real. When you hear stories of people that have been addicted to one form of social vices or the other, you will agree with me that most of them were as a result of wrong company.
In the same way, many good things that people experience can also be linked to the people they relate, interact or company with. As a matter of fact, it is almost practically impossible to make it singlehandedly without external input of people. Remember, it takes the power of an iron coming in contact with another iron for it to be sharpened.
Just to let you know, you do not have the entire ages in this world to figure out everything by yourself. You only need to locate those that have gone considerably ahead of you and align with them to gain their own help. This is what good friendship represents. Always remember this popular phrase:
