Hello Splinterlands Junkies

Here I am, with an offering to the revered Night Elder, @Azircon. May this offering be considered worthy and accepted.

This time the Night Elder has decided to test our battling skills in a new way. He has challenged us to showcase our Little League Battle Rule playing skills. No costly legendary summoners and bulky tanks allowed just presence of mind and battling skills.

So lets start, shall we???

My Views About Little League

I don't know about you people, but I have always enjoyed Little League rule set. May be because of the fact that I don't have to face maxed legendaries, or may be because it acts as a reminder that low mana monsters(especially commons and rares) are also important.

Like all other Battle Rules, winning Little League battles requires active anticipation of enemy moves and devising an effective counter strategy. Exclusion of large monsters(especially legendaries) means, the weaker party also stands a fair chance if they play their cards right.

There are certain monsters in each splinter that are favored and mostly used in Little League battle rule.

Fire Splinter

CERBERUS, SPARK PIXIES, FIRE DEMON, KOBOLD MINE

Water Splinter

SPINEBACK TURTLE, ELECTRIC EELS, NAGA WINDMASTER, CRUSTACEAN KING, CORAL WRAITH

Summoner and Splinter Selection

It was a normal splinterlands day, I was battling hard to complete my daily quest with Water Splinter. With just one one more water splinter win to complete my daily quest, I came across this Little League battle. I was tempted to use water splinter again, but I decided to use dragon splinter and surprise the enemy(as my last 5 battles were played using water splinter).

I choose to play with DARIA DRAGONSCALE and summon water splinter monsters, since she was my most upgraded dragon summoner. SELENIA SKY and CAMILA SUNGAZER would also have been a nice choice. 99 mana battle meant, no mana optimization required.

Team Selection

SPINEBACK TURTLE

Upfront, I placed my tank SPINEBACK TURTLE. It is a perfect tank for Little League battle rule(works well in other rule sets too), as it has awesome health along with decent shield and also have Thorns ability.

MANTICORE

158817836372645504 9.png
On one down position, I placed my favorite dragon monster, MANTICORE. A perfect one down monster, if you ask me, as it has decent attack, health along with Reach, Flying and Thorns ability.

NAGA WINDMASTER

158817836372645504 10.png
Time to introduce the Headwinds in the battle and crippling the enemy ranged attacks. So, I summoned the NAGA WINDMASTER. Also don't(never) underestimate the Shatter ability.

CRUSTACEAN KING

158817836372645504 11.png
Next is the turn of CRUSTACEAN KING. Although considered a nice healer, but its real perk lies in the Protect ability. Combo of Tank Heal and Protect costing just 3 mana, makes me wonder why King is a common monster.

TOWER GRIFFIN

158817836372645504 12.png
Let's have more extra shield. Time to call another Protect ability monster, TOWER GRIFFIN. Being a neutral monster with Protect and Flying ability makes GRIFFIN a great utility monster. Since I was anticipating a brute melee attack, so I went for double Protect.

ENCHANTED DEFENDER

158817836372645504 13.png
On the very last, I placed the ENCHANTED DEFENDER to defend against Melee Sneak attacks. To be honest, it was a bit of gamble which paid off pretty well, since enemy relied heavily on melee sneak attacks.

Analysis of My Strategy

I anticipated brute melee attack from the enemy and used double Protect to give all my monsters heavy shield. And I was right, the enemy didn't used even a single magic monster. The enemy however did made a mistake of using ALRIC STORMBRINGER summoner. I mean why would anyone use ALRIC STORMBRINGER in their right mind, if they are not gonna use any magic monster.

My move to use ENCHANTED DEFENDER as a sneak protection also clicked. The enemy two sneak attack monsters got pretty roughed up thanks to the ENCHANTED DEFENDER's Thorns. Also notice the WINDMASTER's Shatter ability in action.
The enemy had many maxed out monsters in comparison to my moderately upgraded team. But still succumbed, thanks to my correct anticipation and adequate counter strategy.

Thanks for the entry. Agree with you the terrible team choice from your opponent;)

Yup relying heavily on a single type of attack with poor summoner choice...And I called his bluff. So he lost despite having superior deck.
Thanks

You're totally right, why did they choose that summoner - either Darla or Selena surely, very nice write up!

Thanks for sharing! - @xawi

wow that was a great strategy against maxed cards. very impressive.
