Hello everyone. We are now in the 87th Edition of this fun challenge, the Photochain Challenge, hosted by @davidesimoncini. For those who still do not know about this you can learn more about this by clicking here. Join us in this very entertaining and exciting contest.
The Keywords of last week's winners are:
Fence by @olgavita
Streetlight by @ninahaskin
The Keywords for this week are more generic and a lot easier to find together in a photograph. With an abundance of choices, I have decided to use some photos of my daughter on a visit she made in Cologne, Germany. This was in the Hohenzollern Bridge.
The photo above shows one side of the bridge where pedestrians and bicyclists can pass. It is walled off by chain link fence which runs along the entire length of the bridge. The whole stretch is dotted with streetlights as seen in the photo. But you might be wondering what are those numerous objects hanging by the fence? They are actually padlocks.
In the summer of 2008, padlocks engraved with initials and decorated with stickers and ribbons started to appear on the railings of the bridge. Couples in love would attach padlocks, or love locks as they were eventually called, to the bridge's fence and throw the key into the river below. These padlocks and the throwing of the keys are meant to symbolise the everlasting and unbreakable love of the romantic couples.
Over the years more than 300,000 padlocks have been added making Deutsche Bahn officials fear the additional weight of these locks would create serious safety problems. There are over a thousand heavy trains crossing the bridge daily. But fans and romanticists protested vehemently until officials of the train company assured that the locks would not be taken down.
The padlocks have become an integral part of the cityscape. The bridge is one of the city’s most romantic spots, with locals and tourists flocking to Cologne to lock their love eternally. Love wins!
For this Edition I am submitting the second photo above as my entry. My personal Keyword is SHADOW.
All for now and may I wish the best to all the participants. Good luck and keep safe.
Thanks pix.
