Mapmaking & Worldbuilding - Day 22

#JunesJourney2020 - Day 22: Magical craters

Today's #worldbuilding and #mapmaking challenge for the #JunesJourney2020 was to make some magical craters! This was a lot of fun, and after a bit of debate about where to place them, I decided to set the craters south of our lost oasis, and north of Broken-Tusk Tower.

Tycho's Folly is the appropriately-named section of land marred by a series of craters that to this day still bleed magical residue, causing aberrant plant growth and strange affects to the wildlife in the area.

Named after the careless mage who lost his life in the accident, the craters are the result of a 'Wish' spell gone terribly wrong, operated by someone far too unskilled to handle the magic. Modern treasure hunters plunder the area, risking the myriad perils for the crystals that can be found growing in the craters. The crystals themselves are a fantastic magical storage medium, allowing arcane practitioners to create long-lasting spell effects by channeling magic into them. Some believe there's even more use to these precious crystals, and there are a lot of minds devoted to testing the limits and applications of them.
