I have to admit. I've been somewhat absent from @qinspired or writing in its entirety, both on HIVE and elsewhere, due to the World Cup. This is a passion that sometimes clouds you, exhausts you, and is very hard to explain if you don't share a love of the ball. Now, I've been meaning to write about Ozzy for a long time. A guy I respect, deeply, even without having enjoyed the best years of Black Sabbath or Osbourne as a solo artist, with Zack Wilde. What is palpable, however, is the cultural effect that our character of today has bequeathed to millions of people around the world. This guy, he belonged to one of the greatest bands in history, he got kicked out; he bounced back, and changed the "game" forever.

Now, I can understand that many people today, mostly young people, don't quite understand the impact that this man has on people's lives, on the way of conceiving rock and roll; or even on the performance that many frontmen use when they go out to give concerts all over the world. However, the evidence is there, it is overwhelming, undeniable and powerful. Ozzy Osbourne was always a freak. And I, as you know, love those that nobody has as "successful characters". An introverted, unsocial boy with a powerful personality. Born and raised in Birmingham, England. Industrial city, cradle of the Industrial Revolution that changed the world more than 150 years ago. Son of a working class, who in the 70's had a hard time.

Together with his friends in Black Sabbath, they marked an unforgettable era in the history of music. They created, together, and without the slightest influence between them (I mean Black Sabbath and Judas Priest are considered the founding fathers of Heavy Metal) a genre that didn't exist, and for which they are co-responsible. They created controversy in their historical era, when the society they came from saw them as dangerous, uncomfortable characters, even Satanists were branded. So, overcoming adversity is neither new nor surprising for someone like Ozzy. Remember, this guy, at a concert, and as you can see in the GIF I have in the post, bit the head off a bat. Pure eccentricity.

Puro excentricismo.

Also, musically, Ozzy's vocal registers are beautiful. Maybe not technically, but they are the best demonstration of darkness made melody. Songs from his solo period such as "Mr. Crowley", which tells a fascinating story of this character, "Crazy Train", which is as autobiographical as a book could be, or "Mamma, I'm Coming Home", are some of the hits and songs that came out of the mind of an exceptional man. A real star, who lived his life as, perhaps, none of us can ever live ours. On the edge, almost always, between excesses and eccentricities, but who knew how to cope, and stop when the abyss was a dangerous reality.

To this extent, Ozzy is an inspirational subject. Someone who fed the souls of millions of people across the planet. Awarded with two entries into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a member of Black Sabbath, as well as for his fantastic solo career, renowned in his native England, and one of the biggest Beatles fans in recent memory. In his own words: "No song inspired me more than "She Loves You". Statement made, while recalling an anecdote at the age of 14. A legend, without a doubt. Who also managed to overcome the poverty in which he was born, the dyslexia he has suffered throughout his life, and for which he was a victim of bullying, and being kicked out of the band they founded by his best friends.

Life is about overcoming challenges, constantly. It doesn't matter if it's in music, rock, art, or any other discipline. The truth is that the concept of resilience goes hand in hand with the life of Ozzy Osbourne. One of the last heroes in the history of rock and roll as an influential genre of culture and music. And even more so, in an era where there are not too many bands that stick up for the genre. To look back and see that we have these figures alive is simply beautiful. Thanks to life, we are in the best technological era in the history of mankind, which allows us to reduce linguistic, cultural, idiomatic, economic, etc. differences. We are just a click away from remembering, marvelling, enjoying, and in this case, honouring a genius.

Finally, I don't want to leave Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy's wife, as a fundamental pillar in the history of the "Prince of Darkness". She held his hand when he was kicked out of Sabbath. She disciplined and rehabilitated him when his substance abuse was excessive and dangerous. She never abandoned him, and on the contrary, she made a brilliant career out of raising Ozzy's public profile when the whole world thought it was coming to an end. Clearly, she is an excellent publicist, but it is not so easy to reduce this enormous task. They are an incredible team, and complementary. The man, the legend, the musician, the vocalist; we all love him, we all respect him. Ozzy was, is and always will be an example of how things well done should be sustained. What an honour and what a joy it is to have him with us.

What an epic tribute to an absolute legend in music! When I was working in a previous factory, the guy I shared an office with always had Planet Rock on, a radio station that played nothing but rock music. When an Ozzy tune came on, he started bellowing out from the top of his voice! He really did have an impact on people :)

@nickyhavey, he is unique, almighty, unstoppable.

Ozzy is undoubtedly the father of Heavy Metal and despite having a very chaotic life during his youth, we can still keep him in mind as one of the legends of music.

Precisely, @wilfredocav. Ozzy was and will be one of the very best of all times.

Maybe this genre is not exactly my cup of tea these days, but leaving such a great mark in music as he did is admirable. He was lucky to have his wife by him, to support and help him out when it was needed.

I believe,he thinks exactly as you just said it in your reply. Perfection.
