Voyager

The Voyager has arrived, finally.

It has been travelling for 8 days, from Germany to my small place, to brighten up my day.
Although the card said: ...for your best Friend, I know that it came to me. It arrived to accompany me to other places, nearby or far away ones, it doesn't matter. What is important is that we will go together to our gigs, and it will help me carry my stage piano. We will have such a great time together, I'm sure.

Come here dear new friend, we are going for a walk... I mean, gig!

The Voyager (this will be its official name) was ordered from Thomann, a family-owned company, founded in 1954. They offer a diversified list of musical instruments, accessories, software, lighting, sheets, cables, cases...
You wish and they probably have it.

The prices are accessible, and you can choose from more than 100.000 products, made by 2.331 different manufacturers. They also sell their own brand's musical instruments and accessories. The transport bag that I bought, my new friend Voyager, has actually the same last name, Thomann.

protection for my shoulders

I needed a new bag for carrying my stage piano, as the old one was already in bad condition. Two zippers out of three were broken and in the last gig the third zipper, the only one that was in working conditions also started to give problems. I almost couldn't open the bag and take out the piano. That was the moment when the decision to buy a new one was born. And I wanted one that would have wheels. Carrying the piano on my shoulders became a bit "boring" :)

IMG_20220224_123247.jpg

not some hot wheels, but they will serve the purpose

The search didnt last for long, I already knew Thomann would give me the product that I needed. There were a lot of different cases and transport bags, but I wanted one with wheels. Also, I had to select the right size, for a full-sized 88 keys stage piano. It has the same number of keys as a standard piano and weighted keys but it looks like a bigger keyboard. I can not play on a smaller keyboard, it is not my thing. This stage piano weighs 10,5 kilograms, you may think it is not heavy, but still, it is when you carry it. As an addition, it needs a stand (I have an X stand for it, it is the most comfortable for these transports.

IMG_20220224_123717.jpg

the smaller pocket

My choice was Thomann Voyager Keyboard 8 , as I saw it had many nice details, two big outside pockets for accessories and seemed of more quality than the other models. The pockets are indeed great ones, I can put here the small sheet stand, the sustain pedal, the cables, and even the scores. Maybe also my personal things, like a wallet or keys, so I don't need any other bag to take with me if I go to a gig.

the cables found their place

now we talk big

The bag inside: it is covered by a soft velvet plush in grey and has thick walls for protection, like 20 mm high-density foam padding. It is really good in cases when the audience is not satisfied with my playing so they want to throw me and my piano into the street. My Voyager friend would protect it from any damage as it also has velcro straps to fix the instrument. Hurray, I can play as bad as I want on purpose and my piano in the bag can fly, be thrown, and it would stay intact.

Well, I should not try this strategy...or, what do you think?

IMG_20220224_130204.jpg

protection above all... now they can throw me into the street

Another thing I like about this gig bag is that it is waterproof so my tears would not enter the piano when I start to cry if the aforementioned situation would happen. Also, it has this shock absorber on the bottom and very good quality zippers. Many of them, and I hope they will last.

IMG_20220224_123820.jpg

kind of shock absorber

IMG_20220224_123558.jpg

zippers all around

Oh, and some small decorative details. Apart from its name, Voyager, we can see one cool phrase: Music is our passion. We all can have many passions, of course, it all depends on where the focus goes, but one of the most important ones is to have a passion for life. That is the first one and from there everything else comes, a passion for music too. Thank you Thomann guys for adding this cute decoration.

IMG_20220224_125625.jpg

pretty obvious that it is our passion

IMG_20220224_154939.jpg

nice to meet you, my new friend, Voyager

All good and all 10 out of 10 for this bag, right? However, there are one or two things that are not perfect. The first one is my mistake. I ordered the exact size for my piano, which is 1320mm long. The bag (inside) is 1330 long...so the piano is just the size but there is no space to move even a cm, and I didn't count that it would have so thick walls filled with that foam. It enters, but I will have to be very precise when putting the piano into the bag and taking it out, not to damage the plush fabric. Also, the zipper can be damaged if it is very tight and under constant pressure. I hope you see in the photo what do I mean.

IMG_20220224_125928.jpg

I had to buy a bigger sized bag...?

Luckily, I saw some hidden zippers, to take out the double foam padding, it might be a solution, but then the piano would not be that protected if I opt for it. This Sunday will be our first voyage to the gig, after that one I will probably know more about how do I manage everything. The bag arrived today so these are my first impressions of my new friend. To know it better, we have to spend a bit more time together.

IMG_20220224_133544.jpg

hidden zippers to take out the foam padding

IMG_20220224_130015.jpg

hidden zipper on the upper side too

The second drawback is that the bag doesn't have those small legs as a brake as the travelling suitcases have. I am not sure am I explaining well what I want to say. My transport bag with the piano inside can not stand by itself. I can lean it against the wall, but it's also very unstable because the wheels turn. If the wheels move, the bag would fall. I am here challenging physics, but I would not leave the bag with the piano inside in this position without my supervision. This was just for the photo :D

IMG_20220224_125154.jpg

it's not so stable

IMG_20220224_125229.jpg

challenging the law of physics

I am happy I could meet this new friend of mine and also present it to you. It came as a very wanted item, I hope it was worth the price. As musicians, we always try to have good instruments and try not to save on money there. But what about these additional costs? I could have bought a very simple and cheap bag, as I had a simple one before Voyager, but I am sure I would not be this satisfied. Well, I still can not say how it will work in practice, at the moment these are the first impressions I have got.

Quality - meeting the expectations.

Protection, wheels, pockets - all good.

My bad: could have searched for a few cm larger bag.

Not meeting the expectations: it can not stand by itself.

But hey, I didnt buy it for standing but for transporting the piano :D ... I am a weird person!

{I hope Voyager will not realize that soon, and not run away from me}

Congratulations on your purchase!
Whenever possible, buy what you like!

Thank you ☺️
I know, I am trying to learn that :))

OK that is like a tease post. What is in there?

it's my new friend, Voyager 🤣

haha, well the stage piano that sleeps now inside is the same, as what I already had for taking with me when I play in a place where no piano is provided...

just the gigbgag is new :D

Lol we thought it might be a moog.....

or a melodica 😁

That's a cool bag for your travel piano. Looks like it had a lot of cool features. The wheels seem like they would be a must have for something like that. I can't imagine fully carrying it or dragging git across the ground lol.

hahaha dragging it across the ground would be a crime for the instrument 😂
I was carrying it until now, so yes, it became heavy to do it every time. Really hope the wheels will save me. It is best to play in places where there is a piano already, but if not I take my instrument.

...thinking aloud...I should have chosen some smaller instrument to play when I was a child 😆

I should have chosen some smaller instrument to play when I was a child

Hahaha a harmonica would have been great in that regard, just throw it your pocket 🤣

Oh, yes!! Or an ocarina. I could take them both, in one pocket 😎

I had something different in mind for a girl's bag but this is cool too :)
I hope you'll enjoy it!

hahaha, yeah, I suppose the normal girls have different bags...

...I just don't count as one of them LOL

Thank you, I hope too it will serve the purpose well :))

😆😆😆

In the EU we have this law that all goods that are not tailor-made (and maybe even including the tailor-made ones, not sure) can be returned to the seller at any point within 14 (calendar) days. Why not make use of that?

Otherwise, you know the consequences: You can't play bad, or it's ok your friend is sent to the graveyards. It's a shame the waterproofness of the case is an unnecessary feature since it'll not see your tiers! Orrrr, maybe tears of joy?

Maybe send back the bag and get a slightly larger one?

Seriously? Must be I am not living in the EU? or not taking advantage of things 😁

My first reaction was indeed that I had to order a larger one, and send back this, but it is actually perfect in the way how it is. The piano slept for one night in its new shelter and the next day I needed it for one student, took it out, later put it back, and I saw that it doesn't need to be any larger. So all good.

oh, and yes, if a longer bag, it would not fit into the back seat of the car. {thinking, probably I need to search for a larger car too, hm.. maybe a Hummer so I can also skip all the roads and curves and go directly through the mountains, or rocks, beach or anywhere 🤣}

btw, all went better this morning than I expected 👌

Haha, tears of joy 😂 like this emoji! Yes, for those tears it can be tested out, they are always welcome!

That's how you shall roll! With a larger bag, a large car... A larger car may require a larger parking spot and possibly even a larger house. Centring your new friend around all changes in your life is a perfect way of going against mainstream behaviours 😍

Yes, I will take into account your advice. Indeed, it would not be about my needs or wishes, but making my new friend happy :)
Thanks for your understanding 😇

🙇

haven't seen these searching people for almost a week :D

Really cool looking bag and reading your review, the voyager will be very essential for your piano.

I think eventually nothing can be ever perfect but if it is almost perfect, that is good enough.

Also,

Another thing I like about this gig bag is that it is waterproof so my tears would not enter the piano when I start to cry

This made me laugh, I am so sorry.

This made me laugh, I am so sorry.

hahahah, that was the point :))

I hope it will match my expectations, will know it soon, on Sunday :)

Hopefully, you don't get to make the voyager taste salty.

A big mystery until then... perhaps the guessing game question will be:

Did mipiano make her voyager salty? 😂😂

😆 I'll be screaming yes all the way.

😂😂

The transport bag that I bought, my new friend Voyager, has actually the same last name, Thomann.

He indeed has a personality 😊😊😊

I almost couldn't open the bag and take out the piano. That was the moment when the decision to buy a new one was born.

Those candid moments when you realize babyboo has got to go 😂😂😂
Thomann actually looks really solid. I hope he serves his calling for as long as required.

Yes, a personality :) With name and last name hahaha. After all, he will be my company for some time, so while I go to the gig I have someone to talk to LOL

I hope too it will last and be comfortable for transport. Well, in just 24 hours from now I will know the answer :)

Well, in just 24 hours from now I will know the answer :)

😅😅😅😅😅

now less than 24 hours haha 😬

😂

And so the countdown continues 😊😊

hahaha, yes, now it would be smart to go and sleep for tomorrow morning...which will come soon :D

😂😂😂😂
Good night Mi ♥️♥️♥️

Looks like the perfect case/transport case for you to go around and about to gigs. 😎
It all fits in. And the wheels make it a bit easier too.
Enjoy it 🤓 🎹

I will try to enjoy it.

It fits, indeed. Now I packed everything, also the music sheets and all, but huh, it's heavy now hahaha. I prepared now everything and am a bit in doubt about how it will go tomorrow morning... 😬

I can imagine it is heavy now with everything in it.
Good luck tomorrow I cross my fingers 🤞🏻😁

Well, I should workout and everything would be easy :)

Thank you 😊

This will be probably a workout in its own 😉

You are welcome 😊👋🏻

Hahaha, it is indeed :))

I am here challenging physics, but I would not leave the bag with the piano

This got me laughing..
I could relate a little bit as I also get to travel with my guitar most times. Having a good bag matters and your voyager is really cool.

I guess you may have to find a wedge for the tires while leaning on a wall. Well I m not a physicist.. So pls don't tale my advice with the piano inside. 😂.

Yes, I agree, having a good transporting bag is essential if there are many gigs around. I had that another bag, not such quality one and it started to show many flaws, zippers started to break etc. I think the wheels will help the most. Well, I hope!

Oh, a wedge, good idea. If the bag falls, well I would let you know 😂😂

🤣🤣🤣🤦🏽😂😂

I hope it doesn't.. Lol

yeah, you should hope that 🤣

Hi @mipiano 👋🏾
I think maybe you should keep the case lying horizontally and I strongly advise against testing the protective ability of the bag 😕. I currently don’t have a case for my guitar but seeing this post has reminded me to include that in my budget so I’m glad you put this up. Still waiting for your Sunday guessing game though, hoping I could win this time yet knowing I barely stand a chance since I’m a terrible guesser😆. Have a good one at your gig today🤗, and please try not to get thrown out😪😂😂

Yes, that is what I did today, horizontally was pretty ok :)))
No, I will not be trying out the protection abilities of the bag.
Thanks for your wishes, the gig went good, and the transport too!
The guessing game is on for some hours already :D but you dont have to worry, seems that this Sunday, people are not in the mood for having a guess ... so, no right answer until now!

Having a bag for your guitar would indeed come in handy, right? I wish you can achieve to buy one for yourself.

Let's hope your new friend will accompany you to many great gigs :)

Yes, and let's hope that it will also fulfil the expectations :)

Very grateful for the support given to Voyager owner 🙌

It is really good in cases when the audience is not satisfied with my playing so they want to throw me and my piano into the street.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Well, I should not try this strategy...or, what do you think?

ay por Dios 😂😂😂😂😂😂

(y sigue la risa)

Another thing I like about this gig bag is that it is waterproof so my tears would not enter the piano when I start to cry if the aforementioned situation would happen.
