Romanticism is better than reality - El romanticismo es mejor que la realidad

A day like today but in 1991 Freddy Mercury passed away, all my life I loved Queen's music and that group has always seemed insurmountable, the best I have ever heard. If you do not agree with my statement, please give me the reason for a moment to continue with my point of view.

Obviously talking about Queen is talking about Freddy, especially after that biopic as biographical films are called these days, called Bohemian Rhapsody. In that film, it is absolutely reflected that the extraordinary personality of the leader has a lot to do with the success of the band, although having read several books and articles on the history of Freddy and Queen I must admit that the film is just that, a graphic story modified in several passages to be more romantic than it actually was.

That is why you should never trust films that tell real stories, in general, the authors, screenwriters and directors add their own aesthetics and sometimes also thinking about the economic results, their own improved stories.

There is, for example, the issue of his relationship with Mary Austin, if it is known that she was the person who most influenced the extraordinary singer and songwriter, it was probably the love of his life, as reflected in that song that became a hymn for the youth of that time and also of many today, my skin still bristles when I listen to it. Mary was definitely the person closest to Freddy but they never married although the movie shows something else. Her influence was such that upon the artist's death she kept the vast majority of her personal fortune.

There are many other stories that are told in one way in the film and were actually different, for example the legendary Live Aid concert in 1985; It is true that it was the relaunch concert of the band that had been fighting and divided for years but it was probably not true that Freddy attended there knowing his AIDS diagnosis, according to some books, including that of his last relationship Jim Hutton, Freddy just got He learned of the diagnosis of the disease two years later, in 1987. But we cannot stop agreeing with the filmmakers, doing that concert in full knowledge of the disease, both from the singer and his friends from the band it is much more heroic and romantic.

And speaking of Jim, in the story taken to the cinema it would seem that he was the second love of his life behind Mary but the reality of the inheritance shows that he was just one more close friend to say of the amount that was left to him. Surely ending the story of the biopic with a Freddy contained and loved by Jim was an exaggeration or a poetic license that left a more romantic connotation to the film.

Without wanting to be materialistic, the only truth is reality and according to that statement that is not mine by the way, the most important person in Freddy's life was indeed Mary Austin because she kept the most important part of the inheritance. Romanticism is idealism and under that gaze, we all seek perfection that does not exist in reality, however adding romanticism to stories has its positive aspect, it avoids, even if only in part, frustration and subsequent depression than the harsh reality always intends to demonstrate. The world is not a bed of roses, of course not, but it becomes more bearable with a bit of romanticism so I loved the movie about Freddy and Queen and it doesn't matter that everything has not been as it is told there.
