In our fast-paced world, filled with uncertainties about the future—whether it's about our careers, marriages, or personal lives—it can be tempting for some to seek quick answers. Today, social media is flooded with modern "fortune-tellers" disguised as tarot card readers, astrologers, and psychic mediums.
However, as Muslims, our faith firmly anchors us in the belief that the future (Al-Ghaib) belongs solely to Allah (SWT).
I wanted to share this crucial reminder with everyone today:
📖 The Hadith
As beautifully captured in the image above, the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) gave us a stern warning regarding this matter:
"Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and asks him about something, his prayer will not be accepted for forty days."
— Sahih Muslim (2230)

- The Severity of the Act: Just asking a fortune-teller out of curiosity, even if you don't necessarily believe them, carries the heavy penalty of having your prayers (Salah) unaccepted for 40 days. (Note: Scholars clarify that you must still pray your obligatory prayers, but you lose the spiritual reward for them during this period).
- The Trap of Shirk: Believing that a human being has knowledge of the absolute future compromises our Tawhid (the oneness of Allah). Only Allah knows what tomorrow holds.

🤲 What Should We Do Instead?
Instead of looking to the creation for answers about the future, Islam provides us with the perfect alternatives:
- Trust in Allah’s Decree (Tawakkul):** Know that whatever is meant for you will never miss you, and whatever misses you was never meant for you.
- Pray Istikhara: When facing a difficult decision about the future, turn to the Prayer of Guidance (Salat al-Istikhara) and ask the All-Knowing to guide your path.
- Make Dua: If you are anxious about what lies ahead, raise your hands and ask Allah for Aafiyah (well-being) and barakah in your future.
May Allah protect our Iman, keep us away from major and minor Shirk, and grant us steadfastness in our daily prayers. Ameen.
