Hera and Zeus.

Hello everyone dear friends and welcome back to my blog.

Today I share with you a watercolor painting of mine that has as subjects the most famous couple of Olympus: Hera and Zeus, wife and husband.

Hera, in ancient Greece or Juno for the Romans, was considered the most important female divinity, goddess of marriage and a symbol of marital fidelity.

She was also the goddess of childbirths to whom they trusted to have healthy children.

Considered by all historians to be the queen of Olympus, Hera, she was often depicted with a pomegranate in her hand, a symbol of fertility (yesterday I posted a work on pomegranates).

The cult of Hera is one of the oldest in the history of mankind, dating back to between the 9th and 8th centuries BC.

Hera portrayed her with her beloved husband Zeus, a traitorous womanizer who aroused deep jealousy in Hera.

Every little anecdote or stories and legends about Hera are inspired by her deep jealousy for Zeus, the play boy or womanizer you choose.

My portrait of the two gods is a symbol of a very difficult and painful union on her part.

I tried to abstract the background a lot with alternating warm (purple, red and orange) and cold (cobalt blue, cerulean and Payne gray) tones.

With the contrasting play of colors I wanted to represent the difficult relationship between the two gods, united in any case by her crazy love, from the top of their sacred mountain, Olympus.

I hope you enjoyed my watercolor.

A faithful hug.

Hera e Zeus.

Armando.

These two are like the epitome of a marriage lol, they seem very in love in this painting, must be their honeymoon as they were always with marital discussions. Beautiful painting btw, congrats!.

hahaha unfortunately Hera becomes very vindictive, but she was right.

Yes, she was right, what kind of god would go after young mortals transformed into such variety of animals?. I always liked the background of the greek mythology 😄, gods yes but still with human defects, the message "nobody is perfect" in all their stories is clear as cristal. Love it.

Indeed, Greek mythology is the only one that has human-like characters with their strengths and weaknesses.
Thanks for commenting.

you always have outstanding drawings. I appreciate you and take your example. congratulations..

I like this one very much; strangely, I couldn't say why. So your painting touched my heart and left my brain alone - that's the best kind of art. (abbraccio riflessivo)

Thanks Folker this is the best compliment received even the lady who bought it told me the same thing. (she hung it in the bedroom above the headboard of the double bed.)

It is a very special piece. Well do ne!

This is simply stunning, and very well done! Based on the history that I've learned of Hera and Zeus' relationship, it's never been a happy marriage. This artwork shows off a lot of the tumultuous love between them, and it's touched my heart. Cheers, and thanks for sharing :-D

Yes indeed Zeus was a womanizer while Hera remained faithful to him. thank you so much a hug.

Thanks to this post, I even got to a learn a bit more on Greek mythology! Hugs are being sent to you :-D

I love your drawings :)
