Yesterday I walked around the neighborhood and found a quiet side-street where I hadn't been yet. I helped move some furniture right after getting groceries, and I did 5 parallel-grip chin-ups on one of these soccer goals.
I also read an article about an impressive scientific study which shows a strong health effect of walking every day.
Research Spotlight: Walking away from an early grave, by Greg Nuckols.
A meta-analysis (combining data from multiple studies) by Iranian scientists showed that mortality rates were about 12% lower for each 1,000 steps above minimal movement people took every day. This is just a correlation, but Nuckols shows evidence from other sources that walking has such an effect. He's a fitness expert I trust who usually focuses on powerlifting and bodybuilding, so it's noticeable to see him endorse cardio.
What makes this result remarkable is that they didn't find any point where the effect became weaker due to diminishing returns. Walking 16,000 steps per day was associated with a 2/3 reduction in mortality compared to walking only 2,700 steps per day. There were not enough subjects who walked 20,000 steps a day, but it's possible that this would be even better.
