My Actifit Report Card: October 17 2020

in Actifit4 years ago

While looking through the for sale adds on Gumtree an add for a 1968 Morris Cooper S had just been put up and wanting $7000 negotiable. And it was only about a 30 minute commute to get there. So decided I beat have a look as I was suspicious it may not be genuine at the listed price. Yes the add said it hasn't run for some 12 years and needed some work etc. Considering these cars in great condition can go for $60,000 plus Australian dollars it seemed it could be a great buy.

I got there to look at the car and only an hour after it was listed, already three lot's of people looking at it. While I was checking it out people started making offers on the car and one fellow offered $10,000😲. Now just so you know I have had many year's of experience with mini's and know a decent amount about them and what to look for to make a genuine car. This car had some 80% of the correct part's except for the instrument panel, rear light and front badge that apparently had been stolen many years ago(all hard and expensive pieces to find. Also many parts on the engine had corroded beyond repair.

I asked about the missing I'd plate and the seller had it in her hand, this should be attached to the car😲 she gave me a look at it and it was a correct plate for a Morris Cooper S in two tone white roof and British racing green colours. Same as the car was painted.

Now checking the I'd plate number with the number stemped in the body it did not match🤔. When digging in further inside the car I found the car was not originally white and green it was red🤔 things are not adding up here. So more digging around and the extra two holes with nut attached for the Cooper S instrument panel was not there just two drilled holes.

So long story short lot's of problems with the body and mechanicals and not a genuine Morris Cooper S. I sure hope the other fellow doesn't pay the $10,000 he initially offered.

The only photo o bothered to take of the car.

I was hoping it was genuine as I would have liked to buy it at around the original asking price.

That's for now catch you later.

Fucking hell! Has that been stored at the bottom of the sea?! Good bit of digging around you did there and a good job you did too.

My first thought was pulled out of a lake lol. Yes very glad I knew what to look for.

That's a shame. Hope you find a genuine one. They used to be cheaper in Australia than the UK but that might have changed now.

Old cars are getting expensive here now☹️
