We played a round of eighteen hole disc golf at the easy course down by the river. My son and his friend were there. I won with a +1 score. I had a couple of double bogeys though which was unusual for me on this course.
I had one throw that came closer than I would have liked to a dog walker. I was on the tee and saw him with his dog moving around near the basket out of my range and heading farther away. I lined up my throw and did my usual run-up and reach back and by the time the disc was in the air the dog walker had turned around and was half running in the fairway back towards us. Nobody saw him until after the throw as a tree was blocking the view.
We both started yelling fore when we saw that the disc was heading his way but he did not stop running. It landed pretty close in front of him.
It wasn't more than a few seconds between seeing him out of my range and moving away from me verses moving into my throw. He thought I should watch where I was throwing but I tried to explain to him that he had turned around practically when the disc was in the air.
I'm just glad I did not hit him.
A lot of the time I check the fairway for people and wait for it to clear if anyone is there. There is a few seconds before the release where you can't really see down the field and on a backhand throw I'm not really looking where I am throwing. I have a big tendency to get tunnel vision just before throwing and not look side to side much. Usually this is not that big a deal unless someone is running into the fairway fast from and odd direction as was the case this evening.
There is also a problem with trees blocking the view and from the tee pad you can't see someone directly on the other side of the tree. You need to shot shape the throw to get close to the basket so it does land on the other side of the tree where you can't directly see from the tee. Hopefully some people can be more aware of the issues surrounding flying discs on the disc golf course.

The game must be very fun, because the air is also very calm.
We sure did have good weather for the game that evening and it does make it very fun.
Nice shots but that person turned and came running back towards you so perhaps he should have bene paying attention more, you did look and it was clear when you started your throw so I dont feel you were at fault at all
Thanks, yes my son was feeling the same way. I think it is going to take some cooperation from the non-playing folks to make sure that everyone stays safe out on the course. At times I have seen people just sitting on the course out of sight of people throwing into the fairway.
Is there enough signs you think to make sure the non playing prr we pole are aware and advised to be more alert?
It is a relatively new disc golf course and there are no signs in place to warn people or even show the course layout. Usually more established courses have some tee signs and other signs. It sounds like things are in the budget now to do these things soon and I think that will be great.
They may stop incidents like that in the future
