Great Owl Mountain. My Actifit Report Card: October 23 2021

[Polski tekst poniżej]

I hiked today in the Owls Mountains (Poland) and scaled their highest peak - what else - Great Owl Mt. I enjoyed all the beauty of autumn in mountains, even if the weather was quite dynamic and included everything an October has to offer. I will share a bit of it here and … a legend that explains the name of the mountain range.

Once upon a time there was a peasant who had 7 beautiful daughters. They were so beautiful that he decided they couldn’t simply marry another peasant. He thought of marrying them into rich families.

He didn’t allow the girls to date local boys. Waiting for the Prince Charming (7 of them actually), the girls became depressed. Since it’s a fairy tale, they found a fairy who could help them. The fairy gave them a magical coat which could change people into animals and vice versa. There was however a small print - after the third change into an animal, the coat would stop working, making the swap irreversible.

The girls, eager to get out of their father’s loving care, turned themselves into hares and ran away. The father however discovered the magic and got some witch to work this magic on himself. Turning into a falcon, he was very close to catching his daughters-hares. But the girls turned last minute into roe deer and again ran away. So the father chose the form of a wolf and went after them. He was so close, but the girls forgetting about the strings attached, used the coat for the third time and became owls.

The father however remembered the small print and reverted back to human form. His daughters now fly over the mountains and the father died in bitter solitude….

There are 3 lessons from this story:

  • don’t plan others’ lives
  • magic will not solve your life’s problems (and can create some extra ones!)
  • always read the small print...

A dokładnie - 7 bogatych ożenków.

Ojciec zdołał wrócić do ludzkiej postaci.

A quick overview of Champions League groups before the last games complete.

Group A:
@pagane is in the best position to secure quarterfinals - she plays vs @dirkzett today (who didn't win a single match so far) and all is in her hands (shall I say - feet?). @manuvert and @cezary-io are facing each other today.

Group B:
before the last match day, @ilodz24hd cannot advance to the QFs and @milabogomila is in. So @mariya36 and @flaxz will decide between themselves. Are they going for a Bulgarian duo at the top?

Group C:
@kiel91 is still without a win and faces @hivebg in the last round. Regardless of the result, the latter has already secured a place in the QFs. The other slot will be decided in a direct match between @masoom and @practicaleric

Group D:
@browery already securely on the top but could jeopardize my hopes of getting into the quarterfinals. I did a nice hike today (read the post!), but will it be enough? If @racibo beats @pjansen with a very high score...

100000 steps or less. You'll see ;)

I am done for day, you still have 107 minutes to go...

Nice though a bit sad story. Unfortunately, the most important thing is always written in very small letters :-/

when I was in Australia, I heard another story about a father, daughters and magic. The father there was much more of a positive persona, but the story ended equally sadly (read in Polish on my blog

Dzięki za link. To była ciekawa lektura :-)

Very true, I have three daughters, all grown up now, and I wouldn't dream of interfering in their lives (for the most part). 😉

Nice hike, and interesting story. I was on a hike myself today, that's why I could only post yesterday report very late.
