The day finally arrived after 6 long months today was the day to turn in all my paperwork to apply for residency here in Guatemala. I along with my son, who changed his mind at the last minute that he didn’t want to stay home with daddy, but instead go with me arrived at the immigration building at 9:00 am. We walked up to the door and told them what we were here for and they allowed us in (no waiting in the line already formed and wrapped around the building) 🙏 We went up to the 4th floor and picked up my Migratory Movement Certificate paperwork that we ordered on Tuesday, (it’s basically a report of every time I entered and left Guatemala since 2013) then proceeded to the second floor to turn in all my paperwork along with my application for residency. She took my very thick folder legal size and yellow indicate residency through family members, legal size and blue indicate residency due to marriage. Mine was yellow. She looked through all my paperwork, printed out a number, wrote my name at the top and told me to have a seat. It took about an hour for my number to be called and when my number was called my son was already asleep on my lap, the woman who called my number saw me struggling to get up with a sleeping child and was very patient. When I arrived at her window she took my folder and told me to have a seat back where I was, she said she would call me when she was done. 😇 An hour later she was done processing all my paperwork and called my name again. I woke my son up and told him we were done and asked him if he could wake up. He woke up and we went to the window. She had me sign three documents and told me I would be in the system in two weeks then I could then go online and see the progress of my residency. Should take 4 months to be completed. We were done and I was so relieved! The stress was over. I’m celebrating a long 6 months with a glass of wine tonight!
