Es imposible que no hayan escuchado esta canción. Vamos, sí que es posible, pero ustedes entienden.
Ya sea en tiktok, en YouTube o por cierto problema con Nike, Lil Nas X se ha convertido en el centro de atención de la industria musical con su canción, Montero.
Ustedes me dirán “Chente, pero eso fue hace meses”. Y sí, es cierto. Pero yo trabajo a destiempo. 😅
Como sea, esa notoriedad no ha disminuido. Con un ritmo muy atrayente y un video tremendamente provocador, ha hecho revuelo entre grupos de ideas muy disímiles.
Intentaré dar una opinión sincera, aún a riesgo de no complacer a ninguno de los partidarios que han convertido a esta canción en un escenario de batalla.

Whether it's on TikTok, YouTube, or because of a certain issue with Nike, Lil Nas X has become the center of attention in the music industry with his song, Montero.
You guys will tell me "Chente, but that was months ago". And yes, it's true. But I work out of time. 😅
Anyway, that notoriety has not diminished. With a very attractive rhythm and a tremendously provocative video, it has made a stir among groups of very dissimilar ideas.
I will try to give an honest opinion, even at the risk of not pleasing any of the supporters who have turned this song into a battleground.
Empecemos por el contexto. Lil Nas ha explicado que este sencillo está dirigido a una persona con quien compartió algo de tiempo durante la pandemia y por la que desarrolló un gran afecto. Del mismo modo, afirmó que se trataba de un mensaje para su yo del pasado, con quien intenta conciliar el hecho de que no pudo evitar romper la promesa de ser discreto con su sexualidad, ya que con esto siente que puede ayudar a muchas personas.
Así que podremos notar que se desarrolla en la forma de un discurso dirigido a esa persona con quien desea relacionarse sentimentalmente y a quién está ansioso por entregarse sin complejos ni arrepentimientos.
Let's start with the context. Lil Nas has explained that this single is addressed to a person with whom he shared some time during the pandemic and for whom he developed a great affection. Likewise, he stated that it was a message to his past self, with whom he tries to reconcile the fact that he couldn't help but break the promise to be discreet with his sexuality, as with this he feels he can help a lot of people.
So we may notice that it develops in the form of a speech addressed to that person with whom he wishes to relate sentimentally and to whom he is anxious to give himself without complexes or regrets.
En la letra, Nas se queja de cosas como el vicio con las drogas y el prejuicio sobre sus preferencias sexuales. También vemos que usa la frase “Call me by your name” (Llámame por tu nombre) inspirada en la novela homónima del escritor americano André Aciman, con la que se expresa el deseo de crear un vínculo muy profundo entre ambas personas y así ser uno mismo.
La idea general me parece bastante bien, sin embargo nunca me ha gustado el contenido demasiado explícito en la música. Lo que me impide disfrutar completamente del lirismo en esta canción.
In the lyrics, Nas complains about things like drug addiction and prejudice about his sexual preferences. We also see that he uses the phrase "Call me by your name" inspired by the eponymous novel by American writer André Aciman, expressing the desire to create a very deep bond between the two people and thus be the same.
The general idea seems pretty good to me. However, I have never liked too explicit content in music. Which prevents me from fully enjoying the lyricism in this song.
El mismo problema se me presenta con el video musical. El erotismo me resulta interesante en otros tipos de entretenimiento, como las películas o las series, siempre y cuando alimenten de alguna forma la trama. Y aquí no me terminó de convencer. Sin embargo, la estética y el concepto me gustaron.
Recordemos que Lil Nas X dedicó esta canción a su yo del pasado, y con las palabras de introducción del video, podemos presumir que todo ocurre dentro de sí mismo y en el que cada personaje también se trata de él en diferentes formas. Empezando por la parodia del Jardín del Edén, en donde este se encuentra solo y en el que es tentado por la serpiente, pasando por el juzgado de estilo clásico- y a la vez ostentoso como en los Juegos del Hambre- en el que es condenado, hasta morir y, antes de poder ascender al cielo, decide bajar al infierno para encontrarse con el demonio.
The same problem presents itself to me with the music video. I find eroticism interesting in other types of entertainment, such as movies or series, as long as they feed the plot in some way. And here it didn't convince me. However, I liked the aesthetics and the concept.
Recall that Lil Nas X dedicated this song to his past self, and with the introductory words of the video, we can presume that everything happens within himself and in which each character is also about him in different ways. Starting with the parody of the Garden of Eden, where he is alone and where he is tempted by the serpent, passing through the classic style courtroom - and at the same time ostentatious as in the Hunger Games - where he is condemned, until he dies and before he can ascend to heaven, he decides to descend to hell to meet the demon.
En todas estas escenas podemos ver los sentimientos contradictorios que siente el personaje. Esos que no puede evitar y que le producen un gran placer, pero al mismo tiempo, por los cuales se recrimina y autocondena. Es por eso que me resulta especialmente interesante cuando decide rechazar la “salvación” y dirigirse al infierno. Pues aquí vemos un castillo, que bien podría estar representando, junto a quien lo habita, como la fuente de sus deseos más culposos. Por lo que, al matar al diablo, no estaría convirtiéndose en el demonio, sino en sí mismo. Estaría matando la idea de que eso que siente es un pecado y algo condenable, para aceptarse como es y convertirse un ángel caído. Alguien como Lucifer, que fue juzgado y desterrado por ofender a Dios.
O simplemente puede que lo esté pensando demasiado y haciéndolo más profundo de lo que es. Pero ustedes son libres de decidir eso.
In all these scenes we can see the contradictory feelings that the character feels. Those that he cannot avoid and that gives him great pleasure, but at the same time, for which he recriminates and condemns himself. That is why I find it especially interesting when he decides to reject "salvation" and go to hell. Because here we see a castle, which could well be representing, along with whoever inhabits it, as the source of his most guilty desires. So, by killing the devil, he would not be becoming the devil, but himself. He would be killing the idea that what he feels is a sin and something condemnable, to accept himself as he is and become a fallen angel. Someone like Lucifer, who was judged and banished for offending God.
Or I may simply be overthinking it and making it deeper than it is. But you are free to decide that.
Ahora, cuando se trata de música. Estoy más que complacido con esta canción. La producción es bastante genial. Para empezar tenemos una guitarra que baila entre dos acordes mayores, cuyas notas están separadas por un semitono de distancia, creando y liberando tensión durante toda la canción. Los cantos y las melodías se desarrollan en una escala frigia, concediéndole ese aire árabe-español. Acentuado por supuesto por las palmas al estilo flamenco. La combinación de estos elementos con el hip-hop y electro pop, hacen de esta una canción muy chévere y disfrutable. Así que entiendo completamente la razón de su fama.
Now, when it comes to music. I am more than pleased with this song. The production is pretty cool. For starters we have a guitar dancing between two major chords, whose notes are a semitone apart, creating and releasing tension throughout the song. The singing and melodies are developed on a Phrygian scale, giving it that Arab-Spanish feels. Accentuated of course by the flamenco-style hand clapping. The combination of these elements with hip-hop and electro-pop makes this a very cool and enjoyable song. So I completely understand the reason for its fame.
