Antes que nada, ¡Les deseo un muy feliz día del padre!
Precisamente por ser este día en el que celebramos el esfuerzo, dedicación, soporte, cariño y guía que nos han concedido nuestros padres, decidí hacer este post.
Por si se lo preguntan, no. A mi papá no le gusta el anime y probablemente no lea esto, pues todo lo que tenga que ver con el internet le es bastante indiferente. Pero aun así quisiera homenajearlo a él y a todos los que puedan leerme.

First of all, I wish you a very happy father's day!
Precisely because it is this day on which we celebrate the effort, dedication, support, affection, and guidance that our fathers have granted us, I decided to make this post.
In case you are wondering, no. My dad doesn't like anime and probably won't read this, since he's indifferent to anything to do with the internet. But I'd still like to pay homage to him and anyone else who might read me.
Recientemente terminé de ver este anime. Y tengo que decir que, a pesar de que el concepto se me hizo bastante raro (un señor adulto y un muchacho mueren accidentalmente debido a una colisión de una nave extraterrestre quienes, antes de irse del planeta, deciden reconstruirlos como máquinas de combate… Es en serio, ¿por qué se ríen?), es una de las series más cautivadoras que he visto.
Incluye una serie de personajes muy interesantes, pero hay uno que es muy especial. Resulta ser el protagonista y epónimo de la serie, un padre de familia que ha trabajado durante toda su vida para darle a los suyos lo mejor posible. Además, es probablemente de las personas más amables y cándidas que existen. Su capacidad para sentir compasión y bondad hacia otros, en conjunto con su incredulidad e inocencia lo hacen realmente adorable.
I recently finished watching this anime. And I have to say that, even though the concept was quite weird to me (an adult man and a boy died accidentally due to a collision of an alien ship who, before leaving the planet, decide to rebuild them as fighting machines... I'm serious, why are you laughing?), it's one of the most captivating series I've ever seen.
It includes a number of very interesting characters, but there is one that is very special. He happens to be the protagonist and eponym of the series, a family man who has worked his whole life to give his loved ones the best he can. He is also probably one of the kindest and most candid people around. His ability to feel compassion towards others, in conjunction with his disbelief and innocence makes him truly lovable.
Mucha de la simpatía que sentí por Inuyashiki se debe en gran parte, porque muchas de las características de su personalidad me son familiares en mi propio padre. Además, ver cómo se sacrifica por el bien de otros, verlo sentirse solo de vez en cuando, verlo enfrentar situaciones difíciles, sentir temor e incertidumbre, nos hace desarrollar una gran empatía por él y cierto desdén hacia quienes no lo valoran como deberían.
My Hero es el título interpretado por la banda japonesa Man With a Mission y es el opening de este anime. Y es de lo que vengo a hablarles el día de hoy.
Much of the sympathy I felt for Inuyashiki is due in large part because many of his personality traits are familiar to me in my own father. Also, seeing how he sacrifices himself for the sake of others, seeing him feel lonely from time to time, seeing him face difficult situations, feeling fear and uncertainty, makes us develop great empathy for him and a certain disdain for those who don't value him as they should.
My Hero is the title performed by the Japanese band Man With a Mission and is the opening song of this anime. And that is what I am going to talk about today.
Musicalmente hablando podríamos clasificar a esta banda en el género hard rock. Pero en esta canción también tenemos un poco más de metal, básicamente por el ritmo que lleva la batería, y rap. Incluye, además, en la introducción y el puente una sección de cuerdas que, con el ritmo del redoblante, le confiere ese aire de marcha hacia el coraje y la valentía. También me gusta mucho el riff que hace el bajo durante los versos, ¡es muy brutal!
Pero hoy haré énfasis en la letra, cuyo significado y mensaje me parece muy coherente con la idea del anime y como dedicatoria a los primeros héroes que tenemos, nuestros padres.
Musically speaking we could classify this band in the hard rock genre. But in this song, we also have a little more metal, basically because of the rhythm of the drums, and rap. It also includes, in the intro and the bridge, a string section that, with the rhythm of the snare drum, gives it that air of marching towards courage and bravery. I also really like the bass riff during the verses, it's very brutal!
But today I will emphasize the lyrics, whose meaning and message seem to be very consistent with the idea of anime and as a dedication to the first heroes we have, our parents.
Lo primero que buscamos de nuestros padres es guía. Por eso, le pedimos a nuestro héroe que nos revele el camino, que nos enseñe a comprender el mundo y que nos ayude a afrontar de manera más satisfactoria la toma de nuestras decisiones. Sabemos que nos equivocamos, sabemos que muy posiblemente nos olvidaremos de seguir algún consejo o que abandonaremos cierta precaución, por lo que esperamos que nuestro héroe tenga la paciencia de enseñarnos cómo aprender de nuestras faltas y que sepamos reconocer la falsa sabiduría. De modo que podamos crecer y alcanzar nuestro máximo potencial.
The first thing we look to our parents for is guidance. So we ask our hero to show us the way, to teach us how to understand the world, and to help us cope more successfully with our decision-making. We know that we will make mistakes, we know that we will most likely forget to follow some advice or that we will abandon some caution, so we hope that our hero will have the patience to teach us how to learn from our faults and that we will know how to recognize false wisdom. So that we can grow and reach our full potential.
En el anime, Inuyashiki queda completamente anonadado por verse convertido en un cyborg (¿Quién no?). Incluso cuando decide usar su nueva condición para ayudar a otros, se ve abrumado por no saber qué hacer o cómo hacerlo. Eso lo llenaba de miedo, el reconocer que no había nadie que le diera instrucciones, pues él era el héroe. Aunque él no lo había pedido, sentía que toda la responsabilidad caía sobre sí. Nadie más podía hacerlo, no ha existido nadie igual. Por eso es que en varias ocasiones lo vemos postrado de rodillas preguntando qué hacer, orándole a Dios para que le guiara (o que fuera Dios quien interviniera) y llorando al verse impotente, aún teniendo él capacidad de actuar.
In the anime, Inuyashiki is completely dumbfounded by being turned into a cyborg (who doesn't?). Even when he decides to use his new condition to help others, he is overwhelmed by not knowing what to do or how to do it. That filled him with fear, recognizing that there was no one to give him instructions because he is the hero. Although he hadn't asked for it, he felt that all the responsibility fell on him. No one else could do it, there has never been anyone like him. That is why on several occasions we see him prostrate on his knees asking what to do, praying to God to guide him (or that God would intervene), and crying when he saw himself impotent, even though he had the capacity to act.
Nos toca a cada uno enfrentarnos al mundo. El apoyo y la guía de nuestro padre son herramientas necesarias para tener una vida satisfactoria. El personaje, al no tener esa ayuda, debe recurrir a sus propias fuerzas. Y pone todo su empeño en lograr hacer posible, lo que sería imposible para el resto. Es por eso que aquí, la letra expone una súplica por el conocimiento, por la experiencia y la claridad para tomar la mejor decisión.
It is up to each of us to face the world. The support and guidance of our father are necessary tools to have a satisfactory life. The character, not having that help, must resort to his own forces. And he puts all his efforts into making possible what would be impossible for the rest. That is why here, the lyric exposes a plea for knowledge, experience, and clarity to make the best decision.
El segundo verso es muy interesante también. Por supuesto, sabemos que en un sentido literal hace referencia al nuevo poder que ha adquirido Inuyashiki. Pero nos hace reflexionar sobre nuestra naturaleza como humanos. Venimos con defectos y limitaciones. Cada vez que nos asalta la impotencia nos imaginamos una mejor versión de nosotros, con capacidades que nos permita exterminar la maldad y superar las injusticias. Cuando somos pequeños, estas situaciones son muy frecuentes. Y es por eso que tener a alguien que nos conceda las fuerzas que nos faltan o pelear las batallas que nosotros no, es una verdadera fortuna.
The second verse is also very interesting. Of course, we know that in a literal sense it refers to the new power Inuyashiki has acquired. But it makes us reflect on our nature as humans. We come with flaws and limitations. Whenever we are assailed by helplessness we imagine a better version of ourselves, with capabilities that allow us to exterminate evil and overcome injustice. When we are small, these situations are very frequent. And that is why having someone to grant us the strength we lack or fight the battles we don't is a true fortune.
Muchos de los momentos más difíciles de mi vida, solo pude superarlos gracias a los consejos que me dio mi padre. Su fuerza y carácter me han servido de apoyo cuando mi espíritu flaqueaba. Ver este anime y escuchar esta canción, me recuerdan los sentimientos de admiración, amor y gratitud que siento por él.
In many of the most difficult moments of my life, I was only able to overcome them thanks to the advice my father gave me. His strength and character have served me as support when my spirit faltered. Watching this anime and listening to this song, remind me of the feelings of admiration, love, and gratitude I feel for him.
