Entre ellos, el esperadísimo regreso de uno de los mejores productores de música electrónica de todos los tiempos. Alguien capaz de llevar el EDM a otro nivel, darle el sonido más optimista y épico que puedas encontrar. Un álbum anticipadísimo que llegó de sorpresa, trayendo de vuelta a una de las más grandes leyendas de este género: Porter Robinson.
Hello, Hivers. I hope you had a great weekend. I'm sure I did, there were some incredible releases this weekend. Among them, the long awaited return of one of the best electronic music producers of all time. Someone capable of taking EDM to another level, giving it the most upbeat and epic sound you can find. A highly anticipated album that came as a surprise, bringing back one of the greatest legends of this genre: Porter Robinson.
Porter Robinson
Uno de los productores más emblemáticos e importantes de la historia del EDM, Porter Weston Robinson es un productor, DJ y y cantante centrado en diversas vertientes del mundo de la música electrónica. Originalmente, formó parte de la movida del Electro House, alrededor del año 2011, siendo uno de los productores más populares de esta movida. Su trayectoria es lo suficientemente larga, habiendo formado parte del sello OWSLA y posteriormente en Ministry of Sound. Durante estos tiempos, su sonido no escapaba mucho a lo común de lo que podía encontrarse en el género del Electro House y derivados. Tras haberse hecho un nombre en esta escena, haber estado constantemente en los tops de música electrónica mundialmente, fue en el 2014 que Porter lanzaría el trabajo al que le debería no solo su verdadero estrellato, si no también el estatus y respeto que posee hoy en el mundo de la música electrónica en general.
Este trabajo sería su álbum debut: "Worlds". Lanzado el 12 de agosto de 2014 mediante el sello "Astralwerks". Worlds llegaría para cambiar por completo la jugada del EDM. Porter decidió llevar su estilo mucho más allá y ponerse a experimentar con el Synthpop y el Future Bass. El sonido que traería Porter a este disco sería sumamente diferente a todo lo que había mostrado. La música sería extremadamente dulce, optimista y épica, incorporando a un vocaloid llamado "Avanna" para acompañarlo en las partes vocales de este disco. La energía de este disco está llena de todo tipo de emociones, pero principalmente, el sonido es dulce y lleno de luz, aunque en ocasiones, el disco se va por caminos un poco más melancólicos o incluso de vez en cuando se deconstruye a sí mismo como en el caso de la canción "Fellow Feeling". El disco, además, contiene muchos samples y temáticas relacionadas a la cultura anime japonesa y a los videojuegos. Tras el estreno de este álbum, Porter Robinson quedó consagrado como uno de los mejores productores de su tiempo. Pasarían siete años hasta que volviéramos a ver un disco de él.
One of the most emblematic and important producers in the history of EDM, Porter Weston Robinson is an American producer, DJ and singer focused on various aspects of the world of electronic music. Originally, he was part of the Electro House movement, around the year 2011, being one of the most popular producers of this movement. His career is long enough, having been part of the OWSLA label and later in Ministry of Sound. During these times, his sound did not escape much from the common of what could be found in the Electro House genre and derivatives. Having made a name for himself in this scene, having been constantly in the tops of electronic music worldwide, it was in 2014 that Porter would release the work to which he would owe not only his true stardom, but also the status and respect he has today in the world of electronic music in general.
This work would be his debut album: "Worlds". Released on August 12, 2014 through the label "Astralwerks". Worlds would come to completely change the EDM game. Porter decided to take his style much further and set out to experiment with Synthpop and Future Bass. The sound Porter would bring to this album would be vastly different from anything he had shown. The music would be extremely sweet, upbeat and epic, incorporating a vocaloid named "Avanna" to accompany him on the vocal parts of this album. Nurture
Tras una larga espera de siete años, el lanzamiento de seis singles, la expectativa de un concierto y muchos retrasos, el 23 de abril de 2021 fue estrenado sin previo aviso el nuevo disco de Porter Robinson, titulado "Nurture". Lanzado mediante la disquera "Mom + Pop", Porter regresaría con toda la fuerza que alguna vez tuvo en Worlds, pero esta vez enfocándolo todavía más en la paz, el optimismo y la felicidad. "Nurture" es un disco sumamente dulce y brillante, que a la vez, fue un medio terapéutico para el mismo Porter, quien ha dicho varias veces lo difícil que fue la etapa de silencio para él, no solo por lidiar con el éxito, si no también por diversas crisis creativas y emocionales que pasó durante esta etapa. En las letras de Nurture, esto queda bastante claro. El disco comenzó a anticiparse tras los lanzamientos de los singles, de los cuales, el primero sería "Get Your Wish", una canción de electropop en la que Porter canta durante toda su duración (cosa que no había hecho hasta el momento), acompañado una vez más por el vocaloid, esta vez llamado "Rika".
After a long seven-year wait, the release of six singles, the anticipation of a concert and many delays, Porter Robinson's new album, titled "Nurture", was released unannounced on April 23, 2021. Released through the "Mom + Pop" label, Porter would return with all the strength he once had in Worlds, but this time focusing even more on peace, optimism and happiness. "Nurture" is an extremely sweet and brilliant album, which at the same time, was a therapeutic medium for Porter himself, who has said several times how difficult those silent years were for him, not only because of dealing with success, but also because of the various creative and emotional crises he went through during this stage. In the lyrics of Nurture, this is quite clear. The album began to be anticipated after the release of the singles, the first of which would be "Get Your Wish", an electropop song in which Porter sings for its entire duration (something he had not done so far), accompanied once again by the vocaloid, this time called "Rika".
Lo épico, transformado en sutil. La gloria, convertida en sueños. La fuerza, convertida en flores. Nurture es un disco que suena tal cual como su portada, Porter crea paisajes sonoros serenos y que irradian una enorme dulzura. Eso sin soltar en lo absoluto la energía que siempre acompaña su música, en muchas ocasiones, la música se convierte sumamente enérgica y rítmica, Porter incluso juega varias veces con arreglos de orquestas, que no faltaban en Worlds. Además, Nurture incluye temas que rompen por completo las expectativas que se tenían de Porter, como es el caso de la canción "dullscythe", la cual parece una deconstrucción completa de lo que significa la música electrónica, ya que esta canción es totalmente desordenada y caótica, representando así, el momento de crisis creativa en el que no sabes qué hacer y solo comienzas a presionar teclar al azar, el resultado es "dullscythe" una canción muchísimo más escuchable de lo que parece. También está el caso de "Blossom", mi canción favorita del disco, la cual es una balada acústica a dúo entre él y su vocaloid, una canción cálida y lenta dedicada a la pareja de Porter.

Nurture is an album that sounds just like its cover, Porter creates serene soundscapes that radiate an enormous sweetness. Porter even plays several times with orchestral arrangements, which Worlds didn't lack of. In addition, Nurture includes tracks that completely break the your expectations, as is the case of the song "dullscythe", which seems a complete deconstruction of what electronic music means, as this song is totally messy and chaotic, representing the moment of creative crisis in which you do not know what to do and just start pressing random keyboards, the result is "dullscythe" a song much more listenable than it seems. There is also the case of "Blossom", my favorite song on the album, which is an acoustic ballad duet between him and his vocaloid, a warm and slow song dedicated to Porter's partner.
A pesar de ser un disco lleno de color y de energías positivas, Porter Robinson estuvo pasando por momentos muy fuertes emocionalmente durante el proceso creativo de este disco, por lo que las temáticas que tocan las letras pueden ser bastante dolorosas. Hay casos como en la canción "Mother", la cual habla sobre la maternidad y sentirse seguro con alguien que te protege. O como es el caso de "Sweet Time", la cual explora el amar tanto a alguien que comienzas a temerle a la muerte, a saber que esa persona no va a estar para siempre sin importar que se mantengan juntos. Nurture es, no solamente un trabajo hermoso en cuestiones musicales, el espíritu que lleva dentro de sí, las energías y las temáticas, son la demostración perfecta de lo mucho que Porter ama hacer lo que hace. Despite being an album full of color and positive energies, Porter Robinson was going through very strong emotional moments during the creative process of this album, so the lyrics themes can be quite painful. There are cases like in the song "Mother", which talks about motherhood and feeling safe with someone who protects you. Or as is the case with "Sweet Time", which explores loving someone so much that you begin to fear death, knowing that person won't be around forever no matter how long you stay together. Nurture is, not only a beautiful work musically, the spirit within it, the energies and the themes, are the perfect demonstration of how much Porter loves doing what he does.
