El Gavilán es un sabroso joropo compuesto por dos grandes figuras del folklore venezolano.

La música le pertenece a Ignacio "El Indio" Figueredo (31/7/1899 - 3/9/1995) compositor y arpista con unas 400 obras musicales entre las que destacan María Laya, Los Caujaritos, La Chipola, Guayabo Negro, Soledad en el Palmar.

La letra fue compuesta por Ángel Custodio Loyola “El Tigre de Masaguarito”(4/9/1926 - 24/9/1985), entre los temas que grabó e hizo famosos se encuentran El gavilán, Sentimiento Llanero, Tierra Negra, Catira, El carnaval, San Rafael, Faenas Llaneras entre otros.
The lyrics were composed by Ángel Custodio Loyola "El Tigre de Masaguarito" (4/9/1926 - 24/9/1985), among the songs he recorded and made famous are El gavilán, Sentimiento Llanero, Tierra Negra, Catira, El carnaval, San Rafael, Faenas Llaneras among others.
Durante mucho tiempo se creyó que "El Gavilán" era un tema mexicano debido a la cantidad de artistas aztecos que lo interpretaron, siendo los más importantes Antonio Aguilar y Pedrito Fernández. También fue grabado por Simón Díaz, Raphael, Los Olimareños, Morella Muñóz, Adilia Castillo, Nelson Pinedo, María Dolores Pradera, Frank Pourcel.
For a long time it was believed that "The sparrowhawk" was a Mexican song due to the number of Aztec artists that interpreted it, the most important being Antonio Aguilar and Pedrito Fernández. En la Barranca de Apure
ay, de Apure, suspiraba un gavilán
y en el suspiro decía:
«Muchacha de Camaguan».
El águila en la montaña,
en la montaña y en el estero el carrao
y en los caminos del llano
el gavilán colorao.

In the Barranca de Apure
ay, de Apure, a sparrow hawk sighed
and in his sigh he said:
"Girl from Camaguan".

Que bueno @helyorsini! Nunca me canso de escuchar esta canción, hermosa interpretación. Allà en Uruguay es muy popular, ya sea la versión de los Olimareños que tu citas, o una más rockera, la de "La Vela Puerca". Ahora sé el origen de esta canción gracias! E investigaré las otras versiones que citas, quizás cantándola aquí en México donde estoy, me caiga alguna moneda más en la charola!
