Hello friends of the musical community, yesterday, when I was passing by a store to buy some supplies (Bodegón), I heard a song that I had not heard for a long time; I immediately stopped to listen to it and when the piece was over, the girl who was serving me asked me, do you like that song? Yes, very much, I answered; it is a classic of music and I don't know why, I hadn't heard it for years. The girl kindly told me, if you like it, we can play it again. I stayed another while to enjoy it, but not before thanking her for that gesture of empathy and good customer service.

Hola amigos de la comunidad musical, el día de ayer, cuando pasaba por un local para comprar algunos suministros (Bodegón), escuché una canción que, hacía mucho tiempo sin oír; inmediatamente me detuve a escucharla y cuando terminó la pieza, la chica que me estaba atendiendo me preguntó ¿le gusta esa canción? Sí mucho, contesté; es un clásico de la música y no sé por qué motivo, tenía años sin escucharla. La chica amablemente me dice, si Ud. Gusta, la podemos sonar nuevamente. Me quedé otro rato a disfrutarla, no sin antes agradecerle aquel gesto de empatía y buena atención al cliente.

It is the song "Vincent", written and performed by Mr. Don McLean; a simply beautiful song, which recalls some nostalgia of the 70's, but if we really scrutinize a little, we will discover the depth in the meaning of this poetry. Although for lovers of good acoustic music, its sound is like a caress for our sense of hearing. In my particular case, the song takes me back to the beginnings of the massification of the musical avalanche, a time when the Beatles shone and countless artists followed. It was the origin, the genesis of the creative movement, when the lyrics of the song, expressed a feeling.

SourceDon McLean was a young scholar and was inspired by the moving story of the famous Dutch painter and artist, Vincent Van Gohg; a misunderstood and rejected genius, who had the support of his younger brother Theo, who cared for him until his last days, only to die six months after Vincent's death. The singer-songwriter, enraptured with the biography of the historic artist, composed the song starting the lyrics with the name of one of his most famous paintings: The starry night; thus giving free rein to his creative power, inspired by the life and work of that genius (who, as indicated in his song) in the midst of his misunderstood sanity and his vile confinement, saw through the bars, with his eyes and his mind free, the beauty of a starry night, over his non-existent hometown.
Don McLean era un joven estudioso y se inspiró en la conmovedora historia del famoso pintor y artista holandés, Vincent Van Gohg; un genio incomprendido y rechazado, que contó con el apoyo de su hermano menor Theo, quien le cuidó hasta sus últimos días, para luego fallecer a los seis meses del deceso de Vincent. El cantautor, embelesado con la biografía del histórico artista, compuso el tema iniciando la letra, con el nombre de uno de sus cuadros más famosos: The starry night; así da rienda suelta a su poder creativo, inspirado en la vida y obra de aquel genio (que tal y como indica en su canción) en medio de su incomprendida cordura y su vil encierro, vio a través de los barrotes, con sus ojos y su mente libres, la belleza de una noche estrellada, sobre su inexistente pueblo natal.

Master McLean seems to have teleported to that dark room, from which the painter, with his eyesight and powerful imagination, created one of his most acclaimed works of art. This story is fascinating and makes me think of everything that lies behind this subtle piece of music. That in the voice of its composer and over the years, it becomes magical and fills me with fond family memories. Don was honored by the National Academy of Popular Music by being inducted into the Music Composers Hall of Fame in the United States. And at 75 years of age, he still performs this and other famous songs. That is why today I share it with you, with affection, respect and love for music.
