Utada asks dj Skrillex to make an adaptation of the song Chikai, final theme of the video game Kingdom Hearts III , since it was known that the dj is a fan of this saga. But instead, Skrillex proposes to make a completely new song. And that's when Utada, together with the dj and the composer PooBear, commits to realize this majestic work.

The official Face My Fears is composed in the same key as Passion (C#m), Utada's song, to make it easier for Skrillex to mix both songs during his concerts. Face My Fears also has the same chords as Dearly Beloved, the recurring theme song that plays on the main menu of the Kingdom Hearts series.

In speaking with the young composer, Gabriel Costa, he comments that he comes to perform this arrangement by an assignment of the curricular unit of media and resources for composition, curricular unit taught at UNEARTE, in 2019, "The professor asked me to orchestrate a pop song for symphonic band, at first I did not know what song to choose until a friend told me about the promotional single of Kingdom Hearts III, Face my fears. After listening to it, I presented the piece to the professor and he told me that it seemed very difficult to convert an electronic piece to symphonic band, but that it was possible to do it". From there, the young composition student found himself in the task of transcribing, adapting and orchestrating the piece from electronic music to a symphonic band format.

Gabriel tells us "as my professor mentioned, the work was very difficult to do. I had to adapt to the advantages and limitations of symphonic band instruments.

At first, I used the piano transcription I made to guide me during the transcription process. I distributed the melody and accompaniment by ensemble. The bass voices I placed them in the brass family from French horn to tuba. The trumpet received a different treatment. The bright timbre that the trumpet possesses, offers that sense of accomplishment and heroism that the composers wanted to reflect in the refrain section of the song.

The woodwind family has the role of duplicating the singer's voice as a support point for her intonation. The instruments in charge of this job are the flute, the oboe and the clarinet. The bassoon on the other hand, duplicates the voice of the horn or trombone. Giving it that combination of sweet and pompous timbres in the engravings. And the saxophones, I gave them the role of the string instruments. They are responsible for the articulations made by the electronic synthesizers that appear in the original piece. Finally we have the percussion, here I only transcribed the rhythms that appear in the original piece, that is to say, I did not make any changes."
