#fiveforfriday
another hip hop installment this week...5 songs in no particular order with a different theme each week

golly gee novelty hip hop songs! i bet you haven't heard all these bizarre classics!

the great luke ski
"stealing like a hobbit"
2003

the great luke ski is this amazing parody artist that only does songs about "nerd culture"...he has an album (compilation) of all star wars songs. i guess his genre is called "dementia" presumedly a tribute to dr demento, where his claim to fame is being the most requested artist of the 21st century. i found his album in the dollar bin 10 years ago and it was about the best thing I've ever stumbled upon. he has many albums at his bandcamp, which ill link to the first album i found:

anyway, this is an eminem/lord of the rings mashup parody... ridiculous, ridiculous stuff.

rodney dangerfield
rappin rodney
1983

this one probably doesn't need an introduction. when rap came out, it was deemed a fad, much like disco. as such, there were many, many novelty rap songs to come out...by people that certainly never had any reason to pick up the mic. they did a video for the song and threw it on his comedy album. still a fun song, but i think his coppertone tan on the album cover is a little suspect...

can you imagine being this high?

the qworymen
beatlerap
1982

wow...this quite the idea for a novelty song! get some blokes pretending to be the fab four doing a rap song...sure fire hit! i found this one on some weird compilation record of weird beatle covers mixed with original novelty songs. its quite delightful and rather charming.

chevy chase
"rappers plight"
1980

chevy chase put out this self titled parody album, with this being the standout track. there are some other good cuts-he does "i shot the sheriff" and an experimental tape piece (you heard me right) of "the star spangled banner" that would make roseanne barr jealous...i found a fan video, to call it low budget would be an understatement. also, don't forget, Chevy was a former member of steely dan...weird, but true.

chris rock
"your mothers got a big head"
1991

following on the heels of Rodney, chris rock threw a song or 2 on his 1991 comedy album. i just watched the video for the first time, but this song is pretty classic. in the late 90s, puff daddy era Chris came and did another parody, "champagne" which ill throw in just for fun.

i had to shut off his most recent comedy special because it was so bad, but back in the day, he was about as good as a comedian could get.

i hope you got a laugh and learned something new! i posted a novelty mix this week on my dsound, one or two of these songs or artists made it in there, check it out if you want some more silly stuff!
