FIVE FOR FRIDAY
this week i was playing "world music" for my radio show so ill grab some of the best to be showcased here today. it's still a little bit westernized, so i use the term loosely.
i was gonna upload the mix, but it appears dsound is no longer there? hopefully just updating systems or something? too bad, i was just getting into it. :( id really like to see more musicians get on the blockchain
anyway...on to the music:
thai pop
sublime frequencies compilation
amazing compilation of 60s to 80s thai pop music. really cool stuff, pretty funky. my personal favorite is the cover of that disco song "boogie oogie dancin shoes"
6E3 UAPR B RONOBE
1989
im pretty sure thats not how to translate it...im assuming this is "eastern european"...can anyone translate it?
its a really good and bizarre late 80s..ugh theatrical sound poetry pop ? i think they rap at one point. REALLY "different" but in the best way. sorry cant find a link
voodoo drums
2001
soul jazz records
this is a great record of sacred voodoo drums and rhythms recorded in haiti..heres a shot of the cool liner notes:
ledernacken
"double album"
1985
i dont know anything about this group. its kind of a 80s electro pop new wave kinda industrial sound. its pretty good. the cover is hand painted limited edition...you don't see that too often.
nigahen
1989
music by laxmikant pyarelal
bollywood movie soundtrack from the late 80s. i love the vintage sound to it and how classic bollywood mics are always so blown out sounding with the vocals. this cut is instrumental i think, with some cool synthesizer.
