Be Amazed By Dakhabrakha (TTT #96)

in Musiclast year (edited)

I recently sat around a fire with some folk that I now live next to and we started to talk about music. We decided that each of us would share a song or two. After all, It is a wonderful way in which to get to know someone.

We had everything, from rock to hip hop, to bluegrass and then I played the following song, by a group, that I am huge fan of.

They are a wonderful group of musicians and singers from Ukraine. They tend to play a lot of traditional Ukrainian folk songs but with their own flair, which I love. Just check out how this next song starts, with the whole band making bird sounds with their voices.

The moment I hear this song I have to get to my feet if I am not already on them. This tends to confuse folk if they don't know the song, as it starts out really slow and mellow.

But then the accordion begins to pick up along with the cello and I must tell you, I get excited. Because I know what is about to happen. I know exactly what treasures awaits, as the drum joins in. And holy moly when they sing. Wow, just wow.

This has to be one of my favourite all time songs. It gets me so excited, makes me happy and has me dancing like a wild thing. I love it.

What I love so much about this band, is that even though I do not ualways understand what they are singing about, the music they make, really moves me.

You can hear how ometimes their music is also influenced from other countries. This next one Wo 3, has a didgeridoo in it, which just adds to the depth of the song.

I just love the way in which they bring their whole sound together, the way they use their voices. They sound so beautiful, when they all sing together and you all know I love string instruments.

I can only imagine the energy the create when they come together. They are so playful and that power jumps out at you when you listen to them.

This last one 'Sonnet', it just creates this wonderfully relaxed vibe straight off the bat. As the cello, comes in with their beautiful voices. And wow can that man, sing some very smooth high notes.

They are just so creative and always take me on a journey when I listen to them. I love how they begin in such a gentle way and then build up to thus electric rhythm that is just fire.

This is another song that gets me up dancing like a wild thing. You can feel how free they are, by how they play and sing and that just feeds my own sense of freedom.

Wow. Just, wow. Vesna has not one, but two accordions! Or concertinas as they might be called. Bellows instruments. It sounds fantastic.

I've been listening to music on vinyl (and shellac! Lots of shellac) lately. There is an international music store not far from me, and I am going to need to visit to see if they have any. Thanks for sharing! These ones got me moving.

I'm so glad you enjoyed them @wwwiebe and hope you manage to find some of their music. Have a great weekend xxx

That bird song is plain amazing! My dad would have loved this! 🦉🐦💚

Hey Vincent, big love my friend ❤ xxxxxx

Hahah, the thought of you getting up out of nowhere was very funny

Happy to make you laugh, I just can't help myself, even when I listen to them whilst I'm walking I always pull a few moves lol xxx
Xx

I learnt something new here. I love music but I love literature more. In literature, sonnet is a poem of fourteen lines.

I never knew that there is a song like sonnet. That is amazing

You never fail to bring us quality @trucklife-family and mission accomplished once again this week. Dakhabrakha are really something and as usual completely new to me, Vesna really pulled me in from the very start with those really cool birds songs, and then it just continued to layer up and up and UP, It's so very endearing.

What I love so much about this band, is that even though I do not ualways understand what they are singing about, the music they make, really moves me.

That sums it up very well, and cool that they take influences from other cultures to add to their already rich tapestry of sound. These guys are great and I will be checking out more.
