Jaco Pastorius, one of a kind...Hero of bassplayers

Many of you know that I am a huge fan of Jaco Pastorius, the founder of modern bass. Jaco is a hero and I have written about him before. Many contemporary bass players have started playing by Jaco or are inspired by him.

Jaco has played with many musicians and bands and always gave that Jaco sound to the music. Jaco has played with Pat Metheny, a gifted guitarist. Many probably know him from his valuable addition to Weather Report.

In 2002 I visited a nice tribute with a good friend. This tribute was organized in the Melkweg in Amsterdam. It was a special evening that was entirely devoted to Jaco. Even his wife (ingrid) got a live call that night, which was quite hip for that time.
The whole evening was devoted to Jaco, there were many national and international bassists, for example Victor Bailey (RIP), he was the leader of the orchestra with some amazing songs.

To honor Jaco, "Portrait of tracy" was played with over 80 bassists, which was a real goosebumps moment. Bizarre to hear so many passionate musicians play one of Jaco's most beautiful songs at the same time

Modeste (Dutch musician) had arranged for Jaco's sons (Felix and Julius) to come to the Netherlands to experience this special moment with fans of their late father. Sad to know that Jaco died in a manic depressive period of his life, killed by violence by a bouncer ... only 35 years old. His sons both also make music with Felix being the most successful, below I am in the picture with him, almost 19 years ago now .... I had put my head in the bleach lol ...

Jaco's son's Felix and Julius.

Recently I discovered another "Pastorius", David. he is a cousin of Jaco and plays bass very well himself. He has a great tap and slap technique.

Jaco still resides in a lot of modern music and bassplayers.... A pitty he died at such a early age... What would have been if he was still around... would bass music be even more evolved.....

Have a great night,

Peter

There's a lot of bass in that family. I know Jaco had a big impact on the instrument and it's so sad he died so young. Another musician where we can't know what more they could have achieved. At least his kids keep his spirit alive.

!BEER

It's all about the bass in the family it looks like :) , love it... No, it's sad, not knowing what he could have brought more to the music.... !BEER cheers !!!

my music teacher taught me to play bass by studying Pastorius music

Alright, I am going to have to finally take the time to listen to a little bit of his stuff. I have a pretty open day today, so that is probably what I will focus on once I get my posting done.

Looking forward to hear your opinion :)
