[Blog #83] Mr.P's Sexy Garage Sale | Decluttering | Minimalism

in The MINIMALIST2 years ago

Heeeyho Readers! How about simplifying life this year?

2022 is all about maximizing crypto while minimizing possessions.

A couple of months ago we rented out my room at my brother's apartment. I didn't have much stored there other than some stuff I won't get rid of: guitars, vinyl records, small memorabilia, etc. Most of what I still hoard are items that tend to store value over time, so it's fine to keep them.

Other stuff are past impulsive purchases from long ago, that I transported from my old apartment, to this new home, and are now stored in my mom's house. Nonsense. Wasted time and energy carrying up and down the state things that I don't use.

We don't have things; we keep it for a certain time

In the spirit of less is more, as the minimalists say, I've decided to unbox a bunch of objects to sell online — five each month. It's better to have someone make use of them than to hope I'll ever decide to use them myself.

I'd advertise for crypto, but mail costs are exorbitant so I'll stay in our local market place. {shame}. Anyways. The goal of this post is to highlight how we can generate cash easly by decluttering.

Item n° 1

Don't even ask. One summer I decided to skateboard. Huge mistake. I remember spending a day or two bombing down the street until getting totally bored of the sport and the skateboard ended up spending most of the time behind the door. Time to go fella.

Item n° 2 - 3

Oh, gifts. It feels like the more we avoid hoarding stuff, the more gifts we get. I used to like this collector's items, but they don't make sense anymore. Why are we keeping CDs in times of streaming platforms? Just to gather dust on the shelves.

Item n° 4+

My mom's impulsive buys here. When I was living alone in the capital, my apartment looked like a pub: stuff on the walls, vinyl playing, beer. I was a guitar player at the time, and so this lifestyle made sense. Then I started traveling and everything changed. Boots and jeans gave place to easy-to-wash / easy-to-dry clothes and the whole minimalism lifestyle began to make sense.

Item n° 5

This one is not all that useless. It's always cool to learn a new instrument, and instruments don't tend to lose that much value over time. However, this Ukulele falls into the cathegory of: "If I don't use it in a year, I won't use it ever." Time to go and make someone else excited.

Alrighty, these were five items I plan to get rid in January. Are you willing to follow me on this journey? Drop a message in the comments if you plan to simplify life this year. Let 2022 begin. And let's maximize crypto whyle minimizing... stuff.

Peace.

2022 is all about maximizing crypto while minimizing possessions.

I'm selling my clutter and hoards on eBay and buying crypto with the money. I'm mainly buying Bitcoin for now but I'll probably pump it into HBD for the 10% interest if Bitcoin pumps :)

I like item 4 haha. Your place must have looked very cool and hipster man.

Adee, glad to see you here! We better hope that BTC pumps \o\ Although, on the rate fiats are inflating, I don't even know if I care if btc crashes.

Are you keeping HBD on savings? Is it worth it? I've been thinking about depositing HBD there instead of using DeFi projects that pay less.

Your place must have looked very cool and hipster man.

it's a shame I don't have any photos. The place was an organized mess and at one point someone dropped one of those hookah charcoal on the carpet, leaving an uggly hole right in the middle of the living room. Great times.

I think this is a terrific idea. If you're into traveling, why have a bunch of stuff lying around doing nothing but tying you down? And trading stuff for crypto? Makes total sense. Crypto can, of course, allow you to follow your passion. Not consume it.

Love your post ending. Be yourself, man. Only you can do that to perfection.

Best wishes for Happiness, Health, and Prosperity in 2022!

Cheers!

Heeey, @braveboat. Thanks for the comment and I wish you the same in 2022.

I believe crypto is THE invention of this century. I'm waiting for our local marketplace (our version of ebay, graigslist, etc) to accept crypto payments. It looks like they are testing it out. Imagine how great it will be.

Cool stuff you got there but if they're not getting used they're just clutter. Already sold a couple of stuff but might sell more. And great idea buying more crypto with clutter

Yooo, thanks for the comment! It's always weird to let go things that once made sense for us, isn't it?

And great idea buying more crypto with clutter

yeah, the way our currency is going it's better to sell for crypto than fiat

Hey @mrprofessor,
I totally understand why you've held on to those pieces. I particularly like item 4 as mentioned by Adé.
I don't blame you for planning to bid with them though. You've be surprised how much such items go for on eBay.
It's nice seeing you here again, and I hope it all goes well:)

Always a pleasure to share ideas. I believe I'll come back to The Minimalist a lot this year \o. I had a bunch of 'item fours' (how's it called in English by the way? drawings? photo arts?); most of them are now hanging on my mom's walls. I'll believe they are pretty 'sellable', great to sell on fairs.

Well, very surprised about item number 5! Makes sense though. AND I did not know you are into Marilyn. You don't look like that kind of guy 😋😆

Best of luck with the sale!

Item 5 must be the coolest of them all =/
I did not know I'm into Marilyn either, that was my mom's gift (is she into Marilyn?)
But you'd be surprised how I dressed / lived some years ago hahahaha

Share some pictures!!!! 😂

Oh nononono, one day in person I show you

It is such a wonderful start to the year, to get rid of somethings. I feel like I am always trying to do just that, as my 3 girls are forever finding new things to bring home. But yes, minimalist is the way forward, everything we really need, we can not own anyway xxxxx

Isn't it amazing to clean stuff up sometimes? I believe it's great to teach kids that's getting rid of stuff is ok (I don't have kids however). I remember being very attached to my toys and stuff when I was a kid; some of those toys I still have (legos, playmobil). It's way to hard and painful to get ride of those.
