The waterfront of Auckland is in a period of serious development as historic parts fall to developers eager to create a modern suburb close to the city.Some of the old historic buildings remain protected and have been repurposed to accommodate the changing needs of a now dynamic area at the harbour's edge.
Kid's day inside one of the massive old cement silos.
Looking towards downtown from Silo Park lookout. The old oil tanks on the left have already gone to make way for the recent America's Cup Sailing village.
These massive tall old silos were built in the 1930's to hold cement that was shipped from the nearby harbour via a railway.
The vibrant Wynyard Quarter once home to rusty old fishing boats is now a seaside bar and restaurant precinct.Relics of the old railway still remain preserved in the footpaths.
Recently the council decided to reopen the silos as public spaces housing exhibitions,playgrounds,outside theatres,concerts and food truck areas.This was work being done on a giant silo to make it safe to use.

As you can see these incredible old silos are a photographer's dream.A mini golfer's too!
It is great to see these once derelict sites reborn to see another century.
