Where The Lilies Bloom?

June 18th, 2020

Lily Lake

If you have never seen the movie it is a good movie even if it is 46 years old, however this post is not about the movie. On Monday we went to check on Lily Lake to see if the lilies had started to bloom yet. We missed the major last year and did not want to miss out this year.

While it may not have been that beautiful of a day today, the lilies are in bloom. The first image is a close up and cropped from my zoom lens:

Here is a panoramic 14 stitched together image shot of the lake. You can see a lot of little yellow parts, those are all lilies. I had a hard time getting a suitable image to upload so I have provided a link to the image that will hopefully stay as is and not be compressed further than what I had to do in order for it to upload.

Big View

It was pretty overcast and a few little drizzles every now and then. If you click on the Big View you can see a touch of blue sky on the far right hand side, and a lot of lilies in the water.

Here is a close up of a small cluster of lilies:

And we will end with a Sitka rose. I did do some editing on this one, I wanted the petals to take the stage and used the photo program to even further blur out the background.

Some days it is just difficult to get the image sized and compressed correctly for upload management. The full pano shot is a 36MB file, Resizing really took a lot of the details out. I maybe should have put my landscape lens on instead of the 35 mm and tried for only a 4 or 5 panel set up.

Being a hand held series I did not want to move to far and end up missing a section and the pano not working out, so there were only small movements, thus a lot of images.

It may not be the full blown major bloom, but hopefully we will be able to get back on a sunnier day, and then take more time instead of worrying about the rain.

Lilies are one of my favorite flowers we have a huge lake down near our property and i always look forward to seeing these colorful lilies blooming nice shots and nice colors you have 👍

Hey, @bashadow.

Plenty of detail in the large view image still, so well done there. Photography always seems to be a tricky thing, and getting on the image what you're seeing can be a chore.

I take it this is a protected lake? It would seem to be someone would be inclined to 'clean up' the lilies. :)

Not really a protected lake. There is a small area for launching canoes and small boats. There are at times lots of ducks and I think it has fish. I think people in Alaska have a tendency to just leave nature alone, the lake is not really big enough for speed boats or really even small motor boats. The canoe and rubber raft people like the lake though and getting through lilies with them are not a problem.

Very nice shots!! Nice camera with good lens!

Thank you, I was glad we got to see a semi big bloom even if the weather was not perfect.

Camera takes a wonderful panoramic view...😊

It was actually 14 pictures, and then I used a program, (free), called autostitch, to make the panoramic image.

Wow ... involved but came out great...😊

Lovely closeup of the lilies and the autostitch panoramic shot turned out nicely.

Thank you, those lilies do make for some very nice reflections.

I like water lilies a lot - it looks so beautiful when their leaves cover the water surface and the blossoms add a colorful touch to the green.

The panorama looks great, @bashadow, and the software has done a good job stitching the 14 images together. It looks like a green field on the lake with yellow dots - cool 😊 I have no idea what animals are common in your area - is that a cow or a moose on the left side?

That is a moose, the zoomed in shot I tried was a little bit blurry so he didn't make the photo cut.

I thought so, but as said I don't know ;)
Thanks for telling me - have a wonderful weekend @bashadow 🙂

Cheers and !BEER
