Hazard?
A couple of weekends back, I took another trip over to Cadwell Park, this time with my good mate Rich (you can check out his fab work here ). We had made a decision to get off the "Mountain" and shoot from some of the other vantage points. There doesn't seem to be a lot of (excuse the pun) mileage in getting the same shot visit after visit.
Into "Coppice"
So we spent sometime at "Mansfield" and finally ended up at "Coppice". Mansfield was ok, a nice bend followed by a decent straight. Good (and relatively easy) to shoot from.
The race is on
Following Mansfield we moved on to "Coppice". Coppice is a really tight bend, with spectators (and photographers) shooting down on to the track. The problem is, the riders come in so fast, leaning into the bend and then are very quickly hidden by the grass slope on which the spectators stand. Its a pretty much "one chance" shot. so you either start tracking early and a bit of rapid fire shooting, or you try and gauge where the bikes are going to appear and prepare to shoot as soon as they are visible. And pray your reactions are up to the job.
Lean into it
I tried both methods, but had more success with tracking and shooting (but still managed to get some real howlers). But the ones that did work made up for the failures, and I was reasonably happy with the results.
Approaching "Coppice"
It'll be soon time for me to take another trip out to catch the bikes (or cars for a change). Or even perhaps try another circuit or even catch some speedway.
