Product photography - Can you do it with a Phone?

Apparently if you don't miss focus, Yes you can do it with a phone, and with a cheap one.

Photos taken with Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 (i think you can get one for 150$ now) and edited with Snapseed app on the phone.

Looks like i missed the focus, or i got a bit of motion blur because the scene was pretty dark. And i did not notice it until i started editing (well i would notice it sooner if i just looked :) )

If you phone has a portrait lens with a longer focal length it would be even easier, or maybe if you have a bigger monitor. with a wide angle camera my background was small.

What i learned with this test.

  • It could look good with a phone.

  • Bigger monitor would be great

  • Mirror would probably be a better choice then glass, especially on brighter backgrounds.

  • Don't forget you can adjust brightness on your monitor, it helps.

  • With darker scenes, it would be smart to have a tripod or to be more careful.

  • If you want to add smoke find someone to assist you.

  • If you don't use mirror under the glass you should put something black.

  • My lap top battery is in a really bad shape.

So if you have a phone, monitor, mirror/glass and some kind of light source for additional light, you can make interesting shots of an small product, literarily on your flor.

Yes you can use a smartphone, I have the same model and taking pictures in pro mode is very easy and you can control the focus manually.

looking at the data, i think it was motion blur. as i just did auto with exposure compensation and my shutter speed was 1/30.
