Where were you 10 years ago (PhotoGames)

One of the games this week by @sjarvie5 in PhotoGames is Where were you 10 years ago - PhotoGames Where Wednesday

This was probably my favorite photo from 2011 (i think it was 2011) but that is another story that has noting to do with the one i wanted to share.

10 years is a decent time ago, for example @fotostef was already an serious photographer and thinking of quitting and moving to an island to grow olives and stuff. And in this 10 years he quit and is kinda back again :D

Me, 10 years ago i just got my first digital camera. It was an Canon PowerShot A590IS. And i bought it because it was cheap and had manual options.

I was lucky enough to recently transfer a lot of photos from my friend and he was really good in organising stuff so i found my photos nicely placed in a folder 2011/more 2011/marko :D

Prepare your self to be amazed :D

Montenegro trip 2011

First stop was in Višegrad, over the Drina River in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Stopping to see the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge, opened in 1577 included in UNESCO World Heritage List.

From the road, town Gacko.

Sunset taken from Herceg Novi looking at Igalo (located at entrance of The Bay of Boka Kotorska)

Two friends of mine have a house located in the mountain not that far from the sea and this vacation was an interesting one as at one moment there were 21 of us in 9 bed house. I was there 15 days and people were coming and going as when and who had the time.

IMG_2391.jpg

5 of us got there first on an old VW Passat and we carried for 7 as friend and his girlfriend were coming by a sports bike. I did not even have a bag i just packed stuff randomly through the car.

Then we had two people come directly from Moscow with 11 liters of vodka (no idea how they carry that in the plane and through costumes)

It was a bit crazy.

IMG_2394.jpg

A view from the Kanli Kula in Herceg Novi (decent amount of stairs to get there, my knees hate stairs). It was build in year 1539.

IMG_2403.jpg

From 1966 it is used as an open-air amphitheater. I think the film Festival is quite famous in this part of the woods.

IMG_2422.jpg

Next few photos are from above Njivice. It is the last town in Montenegro before the Croatian border.

IMG_2432.jpg

IMG_2433.jpg

At the top of the hill there is a small church and a grave of some French high ranking officer. I know the story was interesting, we were lucky to catch a priest up there to tell it to us. I know i thought i had no idea French were there and i think it was not first nor second world war it was something earlier. And i have no photos of the place. 🤷‍♂

IMG_2437.jpg

One day we had an brilliant idea to visit Fort Mamula (at one point it was a prison). And that is perfectly fine idea except we rented a pedal boat to do that. We told the guy who was renting it what we want to do, he looked at us a bit weird but said ok :)
If you look at that town in the distance in the photo below that was our starting point. Getting back with a current going opposite direction was a bitch.

IMG_2480.jpg

The place is interesting and worth visiting. Someone got rabbits there and they survived and did what rabbits do best, made a lot of new rabbits. It is a bit crazy when you think about it. It is a rock in the middle of a sea with no drinkable water.

IMG_2493.jpg

The place was not maintained and we talked that it would be interesting if the invested a bit to make it more accessible to people. Last year i heard they sold it and someone is building a private Hotel there. fuckers.

We spend one day visiting the neighbor Croats

IMG_2506.jpg

Some of you will recognize the place. Yap i was there before that Dragon lady burned it all down.

IMG_2523.jpg

Dubrovnik is definitely worth visiting and one day is probably not enough.

IMG_2532.jpg

IMG_2545.jpg

IMG_2552.jpg

Last photo is a long exposure of Igalo.

IMG_2557.jpg

I was there enough times to talk with my friend about neighbors and what new things were build and what changed. One thing i did not visit and think it would be interesting (it was not opened for people) is Titova villa. They opened it for tourists few years ago.

If you like photography check out latest active games in PhotoGames post. Even if you are not a photographer there could be some fun with memes, titles, music, sharing your stories...

Sort:

See!! Great share :) Interesting to see that your horizons are mostly very nicely leveled, but if not, they do not have a prefered tilting!

I still haven't visited Dubrovnik. Would September be a good time?

I don't know what camera I had 10 years ago, but it was similar to yours. I always thought DSLR was too heavy and expensive. Only got my first sort of serious camera because of @photogames....

if it is not tilted that means that i really really payed attention to it :D and i usually don't have preferred tilting i tilt left and right.

I was there for only one day. As it is not that far from Igalo i would say that if you don't really care about salt water and you in it, September would probably be ok.

I always wanted to get a DSLR, that powershot was just a step to it (and i did got it only because it had manual settings, wanted do do long exposures, even it was not a great camera for it). now i have 4 of them, for no apparent reason :) i suck at selling things :)

What an epic post!
You reminded me of the era that we were packing a few t-shirts and a few kilos of strong alcohol and were leaving with no return ticket!
But that was 20 years ago for me :)

i think that was the last crazy year for us. after that all summer vacations were more tamed

Interesting contest! Beautiful pictures. You were in many places 10 years ago and also learned how to take good pictures. I am just starting out in the world of photography. I have to dig through my Facebook to see if I have photos from 10 years ago, and I still don't remember if I had Facebook ten years ago. 😆

jump in the community. it is pretty fun, you can learn some. there are a lot of games every week.

Cool, I'll check it tomorrow and leave you a comment. It's almost bedtime here. ;-)

bed time here is long gone, but i live in the wrong timezone :D

you can always find active games in this post https://peakd.com/ccc/photogames/all-active-official-photogames

What a trip! You got some great pictures too! You had the angle thing going early on. And I liked how you rowed out to the prison and the guys just looked at you weird and let you go. Funny.

lovely photos ! , I loved the first one, Straight out of horror movie <3

that was my first car and a first decent car in our family. drove it until it had holes in the floor and some after that.

ooh, Must be bringing lots of memories :)

i have it printed as a metal print (first and only metal print i did, small one) 😂
