The Florence Cathedral, also known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, is a symbol of the city and one of the most famous in Italy. Construction of the Cathedral, which boasts the world's largest brick dome, began in 1296 and was completed structurally in 1436. Inside is a frescoed surface of 3600 m², and the modern façade of the Cathedral is in polychrome marble and is an example of neo-Gothic style.
