Creative Shoot: Body Paint

A couple of images from a photo shoot from a friends studio (@brianbrogan1960). It was another group shoot featuring the same model from last time (the lovely Thea) and the same excellent Make-up artist.

Another fantastic creative concept, using special latex paint to create an interesting set of images. Some of these images show a circle catch-light in each eye, this was achieved by shooting through a Ring-light, and helps to add an other-worldly feel to this unusual shoot.

Bonus image:

One of the photographers walked into the room and mentioned there was a spectacular sunset outside, and we all ran outside to have a look, and it was indeed spectacular!

I'm not sure the model was impressed at being abandoned though... but just look at it! The colours were astonishing!

That "Ring-light" shot was pretty different and it really did add a thought provoking otherworldly feel to the image.

Good to see another Brit on Hive. Just don't use up all your good shots too soon as you can only earn from them for a week. Better to build up more of an audience. There may be contests and communities that can get you more exposure. Plenty of photographers here. Have fun with it.

Thank you for your comments @steevc, and there is a group of us from lincolnshire who have all joined up in the past couple of weeks. Currently enjoying the little time I have spent on here so far, it is a refreshing breath of fresh air compared to Facebook and Instagram...

I'm trying to spread the images out as much as I can although in my experience (albeit very limited at 3 weeks) posts with with 1 picture don't do as well as posts with 3 or 4 pictures. I am spreading out what images I do have and keeping my posts varied and relatively interesting. I have also been looking at, and participating in, various contests and communities... although trying to search for new communities seems awkward on here

Feel free to mention your friends in a post. I know @pennsif was keeping a list of active UK users, so he may need to update it. There have been various meet-ups in the past, but it's obviously not a great time to be doing that.

I agree longer posts can do better. Some people are against single images with little text, but it really depends on what people will vote on.

Very cool shots. I have been looking at getting a ring light as well.

It is an interesting piece of kit. some people love, it some people hate it. I think it helps to create some interesting images, but its not suitable for everything.

Great shots Dan, great lighting, great makeup. My only complaint, if I'm allowed, it Thea's mouth looks out of proportion, too small etc.

It does look slightly odd esp in the 3rd image. It might way be due to using a wide angle lens? which has stretched the corners of the frame and distorted it slightly...?

It’s a good argument for an 85mm...

That's a fantastic effect in the eyes. Is it a similar light to what some people use for macro?

Yes it is similar. The led ringlight is about 18 inches in diameter (other sizes are available). It is set up in front of the model, and then you point the the camera through the hole towards the model. Because it has lights all the way around, it means there are no shadows.

The same effect is achieved using a Ring Flash, which is something a lot of people use for macro. The flash helps to pick out detail and freeze movement so it creates a 'sharper' looking image.

Personally I don't like using any type of flash for macro, it often ends up looking unnatural and it is easy to over do it.

That style of bodypainting really works well in UV based paints and under UV lights. It creates a completely new dimension but also challenging.

Wow the beautiful model, the detail of the light ring, very successful and the sunset, fantastic.
Wow la modelo hermosa, el detalle del aro de luz, muy acertado y la puesta sol, fantástica.

Sunset is very good...
