Not a reflection but a Camera Rotation Light Painting
You have seen a few results from that night at the train depot in Dresden. This is certainly one of the most complex and difficult shots for me in a looong time was this camera rotation of these both trains.
The axis alignment turned out to be more difficult for me than expected.
Not so much a technical challenge, but being limited in shooting time, I put too much pressure on myself and was not as effective. Anyhow the result is not perfect yet it has covered most aspects.
Ihr habt ja schon ein paar Ergebnisse von jener Nacht auf dem Bahnbetriebswerk in Dresden gesehen. Dieses Camera Rotation Light Painting, was sicher eine der aufwändigsten und schwierigste Aufnahmen seit langem. Das Ausrichten der Achse gestaltete sich für mich schwieriger als gedacht. Nicht so sehr eine technische Herausforderung, aber wenn man bisschen under Druck ist, wird man bisschen nervös und uneffektiv. Das Ergebnis nicht perfekt, aber es hat die meisten Aspekte abgedeckt.
What were the settings?
This is actually a pretty complex shot for me. Looks easy but it is not. In Photoshop this would be easy but as always that is not a Photoshop exercise this is a single exposure Light Painting!
What you see in the featured Light Painting is a single 129-second exposure time photograph. The camera was always set to ISO 100 and the Lens to F22.
Felix and Thomas were so kind to help me with the lighting up the trains.
Das hier war eine ziemlich komplexe Aufnahme. Sieht einfach aus, war es aber nicht. In Photoshop wäre das einfach gewesen, aber wie immer ist das hier keine Photoshop-Übung, sondern eine Leight Painting Einzelbelichtung!
Was Ihr hier als Cover Light Painting seht ist eine einzige Aufnahme mit 129s Belichtungszeit. Die Kamera war auf ISO 100 und das Objektiv auf F22.
Beim Einleuchten haben mir Felix und Thomas geholfen.
Step 1+1
There is technically 3 steps. Trains from the side; two times plus the logo to appear in the middle above the trains. Just the rotation was already difficult.
Way more difficult than expected was the overall exposure time which was limited by the ambient light. Just to get the two trains without ambient disturbance was super difficult. But the first task to master. and the result you see above.
After that you can do this, you do this twice: rotate the camera and repeat.
Es gibt technisch gesehen hier 3 Schritte. Züge von der Seite; zweimal plus das Logo, das mittig über den Zügen erscheint. Allein das Drehen war schon schwierig.
Viel schwieriger als erwartet war die Gesamtbelichtungszeit, die durch das Umgebungslicht begrenzt war. Nur die beiden Züge ohne Umgebungsstörungen zu bekommen, war schon super schwierig. Aber die erste Aufgabe, die es zu meistern gilt. und das Ergebnis seht ihr oben.
Danach alles einfach 2x.
Step 2
Also not as easy as expected was to get the logo from the front of the train lit up in the way it shows up on the top side between both trains. Size and positioning were the tricky part of this adventure here.
My tripod broke so I could not get high enough between the trains to focus properly on it. So it shot this almost freehanded. then put the camera back on the tripod looking at the trains from the side.
Ebenfalls nicht so einfach wie erwartet war es, das Logo von der Vorderseite des Zuges so zu beleuchten, wie es auf der Oberseite zwischen den beiden Zügen zu sehen ist. Größe und Positionierung waren hier der knifflige Teil dieses Abenteuers.
Mein Stativ ist kaputt gegangen, so dass ich zwischen den Zügen nicht hoch genug kommen konnte, um richtig darauf zu fokussieren. Also schoss es fast freihändig. Dann die Kamera wieder auf das Stativ stellen und die Züge von der Seite.
Trains what?
Vehicle of the SVT Görlitz Combustion railcar 18.16, series 175 type Görlitz The VT 18.16 was a special train of the former Deutsche Reichsbahn of the GDR. The diesel-hydraulic express train (SVT) was specially built for international connections to Scandinavia, Austria and Czechoslovakia. Great importance was attached to high-quality equipment and excellent condition at the Stolz der Deutsche Reichsbahn.
