Wen Moon?

Wen moon? One of the most frequently asked questions in Crypto. And one of the questions where we can only say "SOON" for now, but when will be "SOON". Nobody knows! At least it doesn't seem like it at the moment...unfortunately. So the question, "Wen Moon?" will sound often I'm afraid.

Because the Crypto doesn't seem to be thinking about mooning for the time being, I thought I'd use today to throw some fun facts about The Moon in a blog. Okay, admittedly, this inspiration, of course, came from taking a photo of the moon last May 2. And no, it was not a full moon on that day. This was actually my practice shot and I wanted to repeat the feat on May 5 when the moon was full. Unfortunately, on May 5 it was so cloudy that no moon could be seen. A big damper on my anticipation, but I still had the feeling that my 'moon blog' had to be written and posted. Perhaps it can be a boost to my portfolio?

So let's talk about the moon!

Have you ever said to someone, "Oh, walk to the moon!", then you should know that this is simply impossible. There is no road that goes from the earth to the moon like this. The only way to get to the moon, if NASA and other space technologists are to be believed, is by rocket, or other spacecraft. And then the average travel time is between 3 and 4 days, depending on the speed and route of the mission. No, there are no traffic lights that cause delays, or so I assume. However, nowadays one has to take into account a large number of Starlink satellites that have to be maneuvered in between.

The average distance you have to travel to get from the Earth to the Moon is about 384,400 kilometers. And that is quite a distance, for comparison, the diameter of our globe is slightly less than 13,000 kilometers. And if you assume that someone can walk at a speed of 5 km per hour for 8 hours a day, then you have already lost 318 days to walk around the earth. Even if there were a road that would make it possible to walk from the Earth to the Moon, it is still virtually impossible given that we walk on average no more than 185,000 kilometers during our lifetime.

Actually it's quite close

So you can assume that the 384,400 kilometers to the moon is far. Very far. And yet, in cosmic terms, it is actually quite close. If you take the sun for example, it is about 150 million kilometers from our earth. So you could really see the moon as our neighbor where you have a nice cup of coffee ...

Although the moon may be moving a bit too fast to make that cup of coffee. The moon moves at a speed of about 3,700 kilometers per hour! That is a speed to be impressed by, your Tesla will not make it! Anyway, because of this gigantic speed, the moon goes around the earth in about 27 days, so it can happen that we sometimes have 2 full moons in a month to have.

Influenced by the moon

Another interesting thing is that the moon influences the tides on Earth. The gravitational pull of the moon on the ocean causes ebbs and flows. That is not the only thing on earth that is influenced by the moon, a lot of people are also influenced by the moon. Not everyone knows this about themselves, but mood swings, psychological problems, poor sleep and strange dreams, among other things, can all be related to the moon. Don't worry, it's not all bad, because the full moon is also an excellent period for you if you really want to gain insights about where you are now, what you have achieved and what you want to do with your life. From now on you don't have to wait until the turn of the year for these kinds of moments, but you can use ANY full moon period. Gosh, that saves a lot of time to be able to adjust your course in time if you threaten to deviate from your predetermined plan at the turn of the year!

The moon needs the sun to stand out

It's about time I close this blog, but I really can't do that without one last detail. We all like gazing at the moon, at least... I could really sit and stare at it for a while. Enjoying the peace and quiet around me. Dreaming away in my mind while everything around me is magically lit by the moon. You know it all right? Every environment suddenly looks different ... more mysterious. Only you should actually know that the moon itself has no light of its own! Oops, why not? So you can't walk in moonlight? Um no, not really. Technically, the light we see is a reflection of the sun shining on the moon. This science really takes away a lot of the romance, the mystery surrounding the moon... so the moon just needs the sun to stand out. Well, I know... I once had a girlfriend who used me to be the center of attention. The friendship didn't last...

The moon will remain for the time being, but it does float about a 3.5 centimeters further from Earth every year. One day it will be TOO far from Earth to reflect sunlight for us. But you and I won't live to see that moment, and maybe no one will. Who's to say?

June 4, The next full moon

For now, every night we can enjoy one of the most beautiful objects in the sky that we can all see with the naked eye, that is, if there are no clouds when you want to look!
