Petit Piton

“When it comes time to die, let us not discover that we have never lived.” Henry David Thoreau

I have not been editing many new photos for the best part of two months. Just busy with life. We have had a lovely time in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) since arriving the week before Christmas. Lots to share from there once I get my photo editing mojo back.

Last week however we left the beautiful waters of SVG and sailed up to Antigua (about 40 hours). We had a very fast, squally sail and overnighted in the Pitons in St Lucia under Q flag to break up the trip. Amazingly the squalls cleared for long enough just as we arrived at sunset allowing a small window of opportunity to get the drone up and capture some almost mystical light over Petit Piton. Petit Piton is easily the most dramatic mountain in the Eastern Caribbean rising an incredible 743 m (2,438 ft) out of the depths.

We left at a particularly dark 4am the following morning with nothing but some amazing bioluminescence in our wake to contrast with the imposing dark shadows of the Pitons behind us. From the Pitons we sailed 28 hours straight up to Antigua; again a very squally trip seeing over 40 knots in one squall line with consistent winds around 28 for some time. Despite the lumpy seas we all had a great sail with no one getting sea sick and caught a delicious tuna just in time for dinner on our night at sea.

We will explore around Antigua and Barbuda for a while and are still considering our next options from here. The pandemic has made life on a sailboat even more unpredictable than it normally is. Hope everyone is well.

How lucky you are to be at that beautiful place.

Yes very lucky

Simply incredible!

That very much looks like the top of a giant underwater mountain. Has it had people scaling it to stand on the tip because yes?

The height these drones can get to always spins me out (and makes me nervous only because I'm pretty sure I'd klutz it XD).

Are you still stuck drifting around or are you back to drifting around by choice now?

Yes people climb it ;-) ; they won't let you do it without a guide. I can get the done up to 500m but they limit it at that.

Drifting by some choice but wondering where to go with limited options.

Very nice colors mate :)

So beautiful picture 😻

Absolutly LOOVE this view ❤️

Thanks. Have you been down to the Caribbean?

NO never, but I wish 😉
Looks like a place with breathtaking envirement.

What the coolest mountain!
