PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT

I went to the nearby forest again to gain more experience with the Back Light Scanner. The Back Light Scanner is a very useful light painting tool. Without practice, however, it won't be. At first sight it looks quite simple. The light painter simply walks towards the camera with this strange device. However, if the Lightpainter does not move the Back Light Scanner exactly parallel to the camera during illumination, the light source itself is visible in the picture. In rooms with clear structures this is still quite easy. On a forest path that is not necessarily straight, this becomes more difficult.
Ich war wieder im nahe gelegenen Wald um mehr Erfahrung mit dem Back Light Scanner zu sammeln. Der Back Light Scanner ist ein sehr nützliches Lightpainting Werkzeug. Ohne Übung wird das allerdings nicht. Auf den ersten Blick sieht das recht einfach aus. Der Lightpainter läuft mit diesem merkwürdigen Gerät einfach Richtung Kamera. Wenn allerdings der Lightpainter den Back Light Scanner nicht während der Ausleuchtung genau paralel zur Kamera bewegt, ist die Lichtquelle selbst im Bild sichtbar. In Räumen mit klaren Strukture ist das noch recht einfach. Auf einem Waldweg, der nicht unbedingt gerade ist, wird das dann schon schwieriger.
Here you can see the Back Light Scanner that I used in the light paintings in this post. I printed the two funnel-shaped parts on the 3D printer and then connected them with a 60mm acrylic tube. The Emisar D18 then goes into the rear holder. At the brightest level, this lamp delivers 10,000 lumens. Since quite a lot of light is absorbed by the back light scanner, it is advantageous if the torch has a high luminous flux. There is additional space in the holder for round acrylic colour filters.
Hier seht ihr den Back Light Scanner, den ich in den Lightpaintings in diesem Beitrag verwendet habe. Ich habe die beiden trichterförmigen Teile auf dem 3D Drucker gedruckt und diese dann mit einem 60mm Acrylrohr miteinander verbunden. In die hintere Aufnahme kommt dann die Emisar D18. In der hellsten Stufe liefert diese Lampe 10000 Lumen. Da recht viel Licht vom Back Light Scanner absorbiert wird, ist es vorteilhaft wenn die Taschenlampe einen hohen Lichtstrom hat. In der Aufnahme ist zusätzlich Platz für runde Farbfilter aus Acryl.

tFirst I painted the light object into the picture with a blade made of acrylic glass. In the second step, I then illuminated the forest with the Back Light Scanner. I walked the small path from behind to directly in front of the camera. Since light decreases quadratically with distance, I accelerated my steps the closer I got to the camera. To know where the camera was at all times, I attached luminescent markers to the tripod and put a luminescent cube on the flash shoe.
Zuerst habe ich das Lichtobjekt mit einem Blade aus Acrylglas ins Bild gemalt. Im zweiten Schritt habe ich dann den Wald mit dem Back Light Scanner beleuchtet. Ich bin den kleinen Weg von hinten bis direkt vor die Kamera gelaufen. Da Licht mit der Entfernung quadratisch abnimmt habe ich meine Schritte beschleunigt um so näher ich der Kamera kam. Um jederzeit zu wissen, wo die Kamera steht habe ich nachleuchtende Markierungen am Stativ angebracht und einen nachleuchtenden Würfel auf den Blitzschuh gesteckt.
Without this marking, it becomes difficult not to lose orientation. Sometimes, however, there are good orientation points at the shooting location, for example a light source at some distance behind the camera. But most of the time these are not available. Alternatively, you could attach a small camping lamp or something similar to the tripod. It should not shine brightly so that the light painting is not influenced by this lamp.
Ohne diese Markierung wird es schwierig nicht die Orientierung zu verlieren. Manchmal gibt es allerdings auch gute Orientierungspunkte am Aufnahmeort, beispielsweise ein Lichtquelle in einiger Entfernung hinter der Kamera. Aber meist gibt es diese eben nicht. Alternativ könnte man auch eine kleine Campinglampe oder Ähnliches am Stativ befestigen. Keinesfalls sollte diese hell leuchten damit das Lightpainting von dieser Lampe nicht beeinflusst wird.

The ghost in the back was not planned, but I like the picture. I had illuminated myself with the Back Light Scanner because I didn't hold it far enough away from my body when I switched it on and didn't go off immediately.
Der Geist im hinteren Teil war zwar nicht geplant, aber mir gefällt das Bild gut. Ich hatte mich selbst mit dem Back Light Scanner beleuchtet weil ich ihn beim Einschalten nicht weit genug vom Körper entfernt gehalten habe und nicht sofort losgegangen bin.
The Back Light Scanner makes it easy to emit back light into the light painting scene without the light source itself being visible, even if it is not obscured by a person or object. With a little practice, impressive pictures can be taken with this technique.
Der Back Light Scanner ermöglicht es auf einfache Weise Gegenlicht in die Lightpainting Szene zu emitieren, ohne dass die Lichtquelle selbst sichtbar ist auch wenn diese nicht von einer Person oder einem Gegenstand verdeckt wird. Mit etwas Übung lassen sich beeindruckende Bilder mit dieser Technik aufnehmen.
