Hey guys,
today, I am excited to come up with the last post dedicated to the very interesting exhibitions of the Wawel Castle here in Krakow, Poland that I had the privilege to visit in the past few weeks.
After taking you on the tours around the Medieval Wawel and around the castle´s impressive collection of Oriental Arts, I am going to finish this mini series today by introducing you to the so called "Wawel Recovered".
This exhibition is dedicated to the history of the Wawel Castle from the end of the 18th century (when Poland lost its independence to Austria) to the modern times.
During the Austrian dominion, the Wawel Castle served as a fort and military complex.
Unfortunately, many original buildings of the castle complex were changed, restructured and some even demolished during the infamous era. It was not until the early 20th century when the Austrian Army started to withdraw from Wawel. After that, massive restoration works began to give the castle its fame and importance back.
The exhibition "Wawel Recovered" shows and explains this process in a very interesting way and I hope the following photos that I took there will help you make an idea of all the happenings.
Enjoy 🙂
No teda, krásně zdokumentovaná moderní historie Wawlíku ;)
