After The Storm

About a year ago, we had a massive storm and a large barge got lodged in the rocks. Eventually, the city got its act straight, and for the past month, contractors have been dismantling the thing. The barge became famous in the social webs with reviews on travel sites, Instagram fodder, and because this is Vancouver, political vandalism.

I wish I could say that I am sad to see it go, it was fun while it lasted, but good riddance. Now back to our regularly scheduled aquamarine ocean with blue sky and mountains.

More recently, a windstorm blew through the bay. Trees bent and creaked as their branches swayed. Strangely, there was little to no rain. Just the gale force off the ocean. Blowing, howling, lifting pieces of debris up in the air, crashing odds and ends across the west end of the city and beyond.

The day after the storm, there were a few signs of its passing. The air was crisp and somewhat damp from the waves blowing their misty tendrils. This area gets hit every year with storms, and it is a wonder that the trees are actually able to grow this big, receiving the blunt of the wind. I guess this storm was just strong enough to break it. A metaphor for life if there ever was one.

It is autumn and the colors of the leaves are very extravagant. Not in the sensual way of spring blossoms but the mature zen aesthetics of a well lived summer .

In the woods, there is silence. Stillness. The slow movement of nature, glacial, stirring across the aeons.

It is intriguing how complexity and beauty are found even at the lowest level. If you were to zoom out above the canopy, you'd probably see something similar to the moss growth on the image. Nature is self iterative. It repeats its fractal patterns at different levels of magnitude. Macros reveal this hidden mystery.

There was a soft light, the sun rays filtering through the trees, attenuating their brightness into a soft mystic hue.

A woodland denizen came out of its burrow and and kept an eye on its domain while eating what looked like a mushroom cap. Its thoughts were long long thoughts.

Such beautiful wood. Cedar, I believe. This last image is perhaps a great reminder that when a storm is blowing, a warm place is the best shelter.

It's sad to know about the storm, but on the contrary, the aftermath looks great in pictures. Amazing nature plus good photography equals awesome pictures. Thank you for sharing your talent and keen eye.

The storms can get powerful when they blow from the ocean. They leave a bit of destruction but they also leave awesome scenes, as you mentioned. It was fun exploring. Thank you for visiting @spontaneoussober!

It's a pleasure ☺️

That exploration went really great you took some good photos from it, i loved the pretty colors and it was impresive to see the last photo of the tree cutted at half

Those storms can get really crazy for sure and create great visuals! At least that tree didn't fall on anybody.
