Sometimes you can deal without equipment for lights

in Photography Lovers3 years ago (edited)

I remember early on in my journey in photography I had many issues especially when traveling to photoshoots. If you travel and you are without a car it means you have to travel light and thus you cannot carry heavy and cumbersome lights with you. Lights are extremely important in photography, even more if you have a cheap camera. That's because cheap sensors can hardly compensate for insufficient light and the photos tend to come out grainy and with low resolution.

I remember that during a photoshoot with Olga I had the same issue. I only had a small flash with me. If I was pointing it at the model I would get photos with plenty of light and with decent resolution but they would look too artificial and lack of authenticity.

After a few tries I learned that a way to circumvent that is to point the flash at the walls of the room and let the light bounce around. You will get less brightness but the light will be more uniform and will fill the whole room with light rather than directly illuminate only a small area. This also has the advantage of casting fewer shadows behind the model.
