I was exercising how to express a personality in visual form. What could be inserted in a frame to give a bit of sense of whose life we are staring at. To start my journey, first I imagined and listed several of them and then continued with one. My aim is to find a personality with a profession not very usual or common. Then to add a narrative by composing how he or she would do an ordinary daily life commonality.
Below are some identities I thought of:
- Ostrich egg seller on his small truck
- A retired old bike racer, trying to climb a mountain, with some bags on his bike trailer
- A miner sailing on the boat with a lot of gold sacks
- Space station chef carrying vegetables and cooking books to the moon
- Soldier walking on the street at night, with a candle
- Old grandmother, also the captain of a ship, looking for new lands
- Thief walking on the street with a light in his hand, staring inside the windows
- Astronaut going to work with a hot-air balloon
- Whale hunter crossing the desert with a camel
- Racing car driver going to work with VW Beetle
- A botanist taking care of the flowers
- Firefighter in the forest, enjoying the scenery
- Army officer on the military exercise field, reading his newspaper
- A hippie wandering streets to sell jewelry
- Drawing artist visiting an exhibition
- Toymaker is on vacation
- etc...
From the above list, I picked my identity as an artist. Since there are some drawing pencils, brushes, and paints around, I thought it would be easy to go on. Also, I narrowed down "the drawing artist" to "a charcoal artist".
Now that I have a profession to stick to, next is to attach an ordinary task to this. After giving a couple of thoughts, making breakfast seemed a very usual thing.
After setting the basis for the composition I listed items that can be associated with the artist, and that can easily be found at home 😀 But before that, here is a GIF from the scene.
So a quick thought about a breakfast could bring the following items for a composition:
- fork, knife
- plate, napkin
- cheese
- jam, honey
- olives
- egg holder
- bread, toast
- coffee, tea, milk
- salt shaker
- corn flakes
- fruits
- etc...
Also, the items that can be associated with a charcoal artist:
- pen
- brush
- paints
- dirty napkins
- highlighter
- pencils
- pencil sharpener
- papers, drawing books, notes
- rulers
- eraser
- eyeglasses
- etc...
And the final result is below. The artist drawing some figures. Then he gets hungry. Quickly he gathers some food from the fridge, and make his coffee. He has an iron deficiency problem as well. So there is a pill for that, prescribed as one in the morning every day... after breakfast. But what is the quirk here?
The quirk is the egg, he didn't have any left in the fridge, but fried eggs... his favorite in the mornings. So how does our artist responds to that, of course by drawing and imitating it 🙃
The colors and saturation were edited as well to bring the egg forward. Also, some yolk color was spread around to make the composition more compact.
By the way, did you notice the face under the salt shaker? Looks crazy about the fried eggs 😄
