Hace unas dos semanas atrás, les comentaba en mi publicación titulada La Universidad en blanco y negro que quería comenzar a experimentar un poco en la fotografía en blanco y negro básicamente porque surgió en mí el pequeño deseo de enfocarme un poco más en la esencia de las imágenes y en otros detalles que a veces desapercibidos. Además, siento que esta es también una forma de progresar y probar cosas distintas en esto de la fotografía como hobbie.
Desde ese mismo momento, mi galería fotográfica se ha inundado con fotografías a blanco y negro de calles, estructuras, edificios, personas y objetos en general. Siento que con la fotografía en blanco y negro se puede capturar aun mejor la esencia de las cosas y terminar contando una gran historia a través de esa imagen.
Hoy les comparto algunas fotografías variadas en blanco y negro que he capturado últimamente y otras que no son tan recientes, pero que al visualizarlas sin color terminaron cobrando mucha más vida (irónico, ¿cierto?)
About two weeks ago, I told you in my post titled La Universidad en blanco y negro that I wanted to start experimenting a bit with black and white photography basically because I had a small desire to focus a bit more on the essence of the images and other details that sometimes go unnoticed. Besides, I feel that this is also a way to progress and try different things in this photography as a hobbie.
Since that very moment, my photographic gallery has been flooded with black and white photographs of streets, structures, buildings, people and objects in general. I feel that with black and white photography you can capture even better the essence of things and end up telling a great story through that image.
Today I share with you some varied black and white photographs that I have captured lately and others that are not so recent, but when I visualized them without color they ended up coming to life (ironic, right?).
La Ciudad
The City
Caracas, es de por sí, una ciudad bastante fotogénica. Desde su maravilloso Ávila hasta cada uno de sus edificios y aceras despiertan una magia increíble que es imposible no detectarla a través del lente de la cámara. Yo aún estoy perdiendo el miedo de realizar fotografías en plena calle, incluso a veces pierdo la oportunidad de obtener fotografías geniales por el miedo de ser despojada de mis pertenencias y terminar pasando un mal rato.
Sin embargo, el fin de semana estuve de paseo y como estaba acompañada por mi novio y realmente las calles estaban bastante despejadas, en un breve instante aproveché de tomar esta fotografía de uno de los íconos urbanos caraqueños: la famosa Torre La Previsora. Me encontraba un poco lejos, claro está, como para apreciarla más detalladamente pero la toma me agradó.
Caracas is, in itself, a very photogenic city. From its wonderful Avila to each of its buildings and sidewalks awaken an incredible magic that is impossible not to detect through the lens of the camera. I am still losing my fear of taking pictures in the street, sometimes I even lose the opportunity to get great pictures for fear of being stripped of my belongings and end up having a bad time.
However, this weekend I was out for a walk and since I was accompanied by my boyfriend and the streets were really clear, in a brief moment I took the opportunity to take this picture of one of the urban icons of Caracas: the famous Torre La Previsora. I was a little far away, of course, to appreciate it in more detail but I liked the shot.

Estas dos fotografías, aunque no son de las más recientes, son mis favoritas. Ya las había compartido antes aquí en mi blog en una publicación titulada "Lo que fue de mi semana", pero ahí las mostraba con su color original. Hace unos días experimentando un poco, las terminé editando y al pasarlas al blanco y negro la magia simplemente ocurrió. Para serles sincera, me gustan más en blanco y negro que en su color original.
Estas fotografías las tomé en un galpón del edificio de Ingeniería de mi Universidad. Nunca había visitado un lugar así, por lo que estaba realmente encantada con todo lo que pude observar ese día. Una de mis cosas favoritas, a nivel estructural del edificio, eran esos cuadros a forma de ventanas que se encontraban en la pared casi llegando al techo. Me parecía que le daban un toque muy distinto a todo el lugar, además la poca luz natural que se filtraba lo había aún más fotografiable.

I took these pictures in a shed in the Engineering building of my University. I had never visited a place like this before, so I was really delighted with everything I was able to observe that day. One of my favorite things, on a structural level of the building, were those window-like pictures that were on the wall almost reaching the ceiling. It seemed to me that they gave a very different touch to the whole place, plus the little natural light that filtered through made it even more photographable.

No sé si llamarle a esto una cualidad o una especie de "don" pero siempre me ha llamado mucho la atención aquellas cosas que para los demás parecen ser insignificantes. Me gusta pensar que, de cierta manera, encuentro lo bonito, lo estético, lo mágico en la simplicidad de las cosas. Digo esto, porque ¿a quién le podría parecer agradable fotografiar un pizarrón en donde a simple vista se observa que alguien dio una clase sobre geometría?
Llámenme loca, pero esta toma me agradó. Ni siquiera hizo falta pensármelo dos veces para sacar el teléfono del morral y fotografiar el pizarrón.
I don't know whether to call this a quality or a kind of "gift" but I have always been very attracted to those things that for others seem to be insignificant. I like to think that, in a way, I find the beautiful, the aesthetic, the magical in the simplicity of things. I say this, because who would find it pleasant to photograph a blackboard where at first glance you can see that someone gave a class on geometry?
Call me crazy, but I liked this shot. I didn't even have to think twice about taking my phone out of my backpack and photographing the blackboard.

Hace días, mientras depurada archivos y fotografías de mi computadora, me he encontrado con esta vieja fotografía que tomé durante mis inicios en Hive. Recuerdo que para aquel momento practicaba tomar fotografías de lo primero que se pusiera en mi camino. De cierta forma esta fotografía me trae recuerdos lindos, pero a su vez me genera un poco de conflicto mental. Digo, al parecer al comienzo era un poco más creativa al momento de realizar fotografías y si bien he mejorado mucho en este aspecto, una parte de mí se siente estancada.
Es increíble como una fotografía puede llevarte a reflexionar sobre varias cosas...
A few days ago, while purging files and photos from my computer, I came across this old photograph I took during my early days at Hive. I remember that at that time I was practicing taking pictures of the first thing that came my way. In a way this picture brings back nice memories, but at the same time it generates a bit of mental conflict. I mean, it seems that at the beginning I was a bit more creative when taking pictures and although I have improved a lot in this aspect, a part of me feels stagnant.

Que bonito mi Mary es cierto que el poner las fotografías en blanco y negro le dan un aura especial, bueno es que a ti igual que a mi nos gusta los vintage probablemente es por eso.
Pienso como tu el blanco y negro hace que nos enfoquemos mas en los detalles, es como si eliminara todo el ruido alrededor y las distracciones y las cosas simples que vemos día a día se ven con una belleza amplificada.
Esa pizarra con ese monton de calculos y números sí no me pareció para nada bonita mary jajaja pero no es por la pizarra o la pared estan hermosas es que odio los números 😢.
Vaya, vaya...al parecer alguien por aquí no se lleva demasiado bien con las matemáticas jaja. Sabes que por algún momento pensé que te llevabas bien con los números :(
Posiblemente por ese gusto hacia lo vintage es que me gustan tanto las fotografías en blanco y negro, ¡tienes toda la razón! Aunque en realidad siempre he asociado más el color sepia con el vintage jeje. Y ahora que lo pienso, debería también experimentar con las fotografías sepia...sería interesante, me acabas de dar la idea de forma indirecta xD
