Exploring the Lord line in Hull

Almost 2 weeks ago now, myself and @fastchrisuk visited the abandonded buildings that make up the Lord Line Buildings which overlook St Andrews Dock, and opened more than 70 years ago. It was a bit of a drive there but well worth the visit as this was a fantastic Urban Exploration site.

The site was once the heart of the citys fishing industry and acted as trawler company office since the mid 1970's. The building became derelict in 1990 and has since been damaged through vandalism and fires.

"St. Andrew's Dock itself was originally designed for the coal trade but when it opened in 1883 it found its more fitting use as part of the fishing trade which was undergoing a rapid expansion at the time.

The dock and the Lord Line building are closely associated with the history of deep-sea fishing. As things began to wind down in the seventies, many Hull residents felt as if part of their history was also disappearing.

Numerous campaigns have been launched to try to save the historic area and preserve the memory of those who sacrificed their lives to it while out on the trawlers."

I have to admit that my style of photography has to shift on visits like these and change my mindset from trying to create an appealing shot, to recording what I see as this is an urban explore and I'm making a record of the visit.

Some location shots to start with to set the mood..

We headed into the first building above but didn't stay due to asbestos. We did shoot a couple of mood shots on the way in however..

We then moved across to the second (Middle) building which were derelict but filled with Graffitti..

..and had a really cool top floor with lots of natural light..

After this we headed to the 3rd and final, and biggest building..

Again this was in bad shape and filled with Grafitti. One of our favourite spots though was a stairway that went all the way from the baseent to the roof..

Once we got to the roof, there was a clear view of St Adrews dock, and more graff on the roof..

Back inside the building, it was a regular urban art gallery of Graff..

After this we headed back to the first building to investigate further, and taking a deep breath before before emerging on the first floor to avoid any asbestos..

After this we stopped off for a cheeky McDonalds on the way home and a large coke to clear out soe of the dust lol!

As a photographer I try to mix what I do in my shots, I've done still life, some macro work, lightpainting and I enjoy a good model shoot. If you'd like to check out any of my other work I'm on Facebook, or you can find me on Instagram under neilru75

Thanks very much for looking

Kind Regards, Neil
