Wildflowers - Part 2: Cornflower

I'm still trying to walk my way to Long-COVID recovery. I'm glad of the sun and wildflowers as it distracts me and gives me something to focus on.

I've never looked at the bud of a cornflower before; it has beautiful gradients of blue-purple and green.

The purple does come through the flower when it blooms, although it does appear to fade as the bloom ages.

There are plenty more colors to see between blue and pink - even some deep purple flowers are possible.

As the flower heads age, they tend to lighten, so a flower head may start with one color and slowly migrate through other colours.

Cornflower plants used to grow in wheat, corn, and barley fields - although, with the advent of selective weedkillers, this species has become endangered in its natural habitat.

These are essential pollination plants, so perhaps as we turn away from intensive chemical farming techniques and return to organic farming, these beautiful flowers will return to our crop fields.

The local council has been planting islands of wildflowers in the grass verges, so we enjoy these flowers more.

Nice! I just planted some of these this year as a lot of UK seed companies give out free wildflower packs. Hopefully I get these great results too!

They are delightful to have in your garden, my advice would be to collect and dry the seede you like (or reseed with a new free pack) as some species are more aggressive than others I ended up with only one species after two seasons when I let them self seed.

Awesome, I'll do that. Trying to be as sustainable as possible so that's great advice!

I love those captures on flowers when one of their details stands out, like the pistils, they are great.

This is one of my favourite things about macro-photography, really seeing the detail, it's like taking a microscope out into a field and really looking at nature. Thanks for your thoughtful comment :)

That´s right

You got some beautiful macro shots in this one! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks man, I'm loving the Sigma Lens takes me back to full time manual lenses.
