It's true that there are cities more orderly, cleaner and generally less chaotic than Caracas, but it's also true that there are not many cities with a natural environment as extraordinary as the Venezuelan capital, and that is what I come to show you in this post, images of when I climbed to the highest peak of the mountains that surround it. After walking all night on steep trails, with this blue dawn we were approaching our goal.

Después de caminar toda la noche por empinados senderos, con este amanecer azul nos acercábamos a nuestra meta.
As the day was getting lighter the views were breathtaking, on one side you can see the city, which looks so peaceful in that vast valley, and on the other side if the clouds allow you, the sea floods your pupils.
Al irse aclarando el día las vistas eran impresionantes, por un lado puedes ver la ciudad, que luce tan pacífica en ese extenso valle, y por el otro lado si las nubes te lo permiten, el mar inunda tus pupilas.
Shortly after we arrived at the so-called "Amphitheater", a flat place near the top where hikers usually set up their tents, there was already a group of people there and we spent a few minutes looking for empty areas to set up ours.
Poco después llegamos al llamado "Anfiteatro", un sitio plano cerca de la cima donde los excursionistas suelen montar las carpas, ya había un grupo de personas allí y pasamos unos minutos buscando áreas vacías para montar las nuestras.
We set up our tents, rested for a while while we had something to eat, put our backpacks away and then went to explore the surroundings a bit.
Instalamos nuestras carpas, descansamos un rato mientras comíamos algo, dejamos nuestras mochilas guardadas y luego nos fuimos a explorar un poco los alrededores.
The Naiguatá peak with its 2,765 meters above sea level is the highest in the coastal mountain range. It is located between the Miranda and La Guaira states and is part of the Waraira Repano or Avila National Park and for any hiker in the capital it is a must-see place to conquer.
El pico Naiguatá con sus 2.765 metros sobre el nivel del mar es el más alto de la cordillera de la costa. Está entre los estados Miranda y La Guaira y forma parte del Parque Nacional Waraira Repano o Ávila y para cualquier senderista de la capital es un lugar obligado a conquistar.
The ascent is not easy, the route has many steep climbs, so you have to have good physical condition or a lot of desire hehehe. It is about 14 km, which translates into about six hours depending on the pace of the people. With my group we climbed at night to avoid the heat and as I told you at the beginning, we reached the top at dawn.
El ascenso no es fácil, la ruta tiene muchas subidas abruptas, así que hay que tener buena condición física o muchas ganas jejeje. Son unos 14 Km, lo que se traduce en unas seis horas dependiendo del ritmo de la gente. Con mi grupo subimos de noche para evitar el calor y como les conté al inicio, llegamos a la cima al amanecer.
To go to the highest point of the Naiguatá peak or to reach the summit, you have to walk about 20 minutes from the "Amphitheater". The trail is marked and when you come across some huge rocks there are ropes to help you get there.
Para ir al punto más alto del pico Naiguatá o hacer cumbre, hay que caminar unos 20 minutos desde el "Anfiteatro". El sendero está marcado y al toparte con unas enormes piedras hay unas cuerdas que te ayudan a llegar.
This is how the landscape looked from the summit, the clouds came and went and suddenly they let you see the city or the sea. The wind was quite strong up there and the cold too, but the adrenaline of the moment made none of that matter.
Así se veía el paisaje desde la cumbre, las nubes iban y venían y de repente te dejaban ver la ciudad o el mar. El viento estaba bastante fuerte allí arriba y el frío también, pero la adrenalina del momento hacía que nada de eso importara.
There we spent a couple of hours appreciating all that beauty and waiting for the sunset, we were not disappointed by the golden hour.
Allí estuvimos un par de horas apreciando toda esa belleza y esperando el atardecer, no nos defraudó la hora dorada.
We spent the night at our camp and early the next morning we started our return trip. The day was very beautiful, the sun radiant, and as we had hardly seen the landscape on the way up because it was night, I really enjoyed the descent.
Pasamos la noche en nuestro campamento y al día siguiente temprano emprendimos el regreso. El día estaba muy lindo, el sol a tope, como casi no habíamos visto el paisaje al subir porque era de noche, disfruté muchísimo la bajada.
These mountains are the habitat of many birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, plants.... It is the lung of Caracas and fortunately I saw everything very clean here.
Estas montañas son el hábitat de gran cantidad de aves, mamíferos, reptiles, insectos, plantas... Es el pulmón de Caracas y afortunadamente vi todo muy limpio por aquí.

The downhill trek took us about five hours with brief stops to eat something or take pictures. I always say that no matter how long or difficult the trail was, from the mountains you never end up tired but recharged with a lot of energy, the kind that only nature can inject you with.
El recorrido de bajada nos tomó unas cinco horas con paradas breves para comer algo o tomar fotos. Siempre digo que por más largo o difícil que haya sido el camino, de las montañas nunca terminas cansada sino recargada de mucha energía, esa que sólo la naturaleza te puede inyectar.

Ooooh @sofathana ¡subiste a los platos de diablo! ¡Qué maravilla! Es un lugar al que siempre quise ir y no tuve la oportunidad.
Desde que leí el libro de Eduardo Liendo, me quedé encantada con el nombre que le daban a esa formación rocosa en lo más alto.
Hacer trekking en el Ávila es genial, yo conocí solo las rutas más sencillas en parte por comodidad de hacerlas como ejercicio diario y en parte por el miedo que me daba el tema de la inseguridad. Algún susto pasamos por ahí jajaja
Pero veo que tienes un grupo que parece bien preparado y uno siempre se siente más seguro acompañado. Además que vale mucho la pena el esfuerzo de andar por ahí de madrugada con las vistas que se obtienen como recompensa. Preciosos atardece seres muy seguramente como el amanecer.
Debe ser todo un gusto acampar ahí, la noche ¿era despejada para contemplar las estrella o se mantuvo nublado?
Me gusta la foto subiendo por la cuerda, que haya constancia del esfuerzo siempre jajajaja

y "La Arepa" jejeje, oye no he leído ese libro...
Yo tenía entre ceja y ceja esta cumbre, pero no conozco aún otras más accesibles como el Pico Oriental, Occidental, el Picacho... hay tantas para hacer. Siempre he ido en grupos grandes (20 personas o más) y no ha habido problema, de noche es hasta más seguro nos dijeron jejeje.
En cuanto al clima, súper ventoso, la carpa se contoneó casi toda la noche, pero sí estaba despejado y vimos algunas estrellas. Atardecer y amanecer igual espectacular jeje, ¡gracias por apreciar!

Jajaja. O también puede ser que ese sea tu "uniforme de viaje" y lo uses en varias ocasiones. Pero me arriesgo a decir que fue ese día.
Aunque es algo obvio, nunca había escuchado sobre senderismo de noche. Debe ser aún más difícil por la poca ilumación sumado a la dificultad del camino, pero vale la pena si el objetivo es no pasar un calor horrible.
La cima se ve bien, me encantan este tipo de lugares altos, aunque seguro verlo con los propios ojos es mil veces mejor. Espero que lo hayan pasado super.

Esa fue mi primera excursión nocturna, fue genial la verdad aunque por momentos mientras caminábamos en la madrugada parecía un sueño, como ¿en serio estoy aquí a estas horas? 🤣
