Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for honoring and mourning the military personnel who have died in the performance of their military duties while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The holiday is observed on the last Monday of May.
Maybe because I spent 12 years in the Military Memorial day for me is to focus on and honor those that gave their all for their country, and that's what this post will focus on some monuments and memorials I have seen recently, these ones are all at Fort Taber.
I know for many this long weekend is all about BBQs and time with family and friends and I have no issue with that, just for me its not the focus of this Holiday

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;

As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;

I remember that one verse of the poem so clearly, it is a poem read often in the evening At Returned Services Association gatherings in New Zealand at the time of Sunset, and especially on days Like memorial Day, and is one I will say to myself this evening as I watch the sun going down out the widow, as I do every Memorial day, and on ANZAC Day
What is Anzac day you may ask - Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations" and "the contribution and suffering of all those who have served
Observed on 25 April each year, Anzac Day was originally devised to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who served in the Gallipoli Campaign, their first engagement in the First World War (1914–1918).

My birthday is today and I am honored to know that United State celebrates its heroes on this date
I will always be looking forward to it every year, for those who have given their up for the security of the nation are worth remembering

We remember the ones who have died in the wars on the All Saints' Day and on our National Holiday, October 26, but I have to admit that to me these days are mostly only free days too. I have never really served in the army and prefer to wear normal clothes instead of my uniform, so I hope this counts as an excuse.
I wish you a good Memorial Day JJ 😊 and hope the weather gets better.

It’s about 14C today goes up to 16 or 17 fir the next few days but not much sun in the forecast

The weather forecast has changed and we might get more sun than clouds all week long, including the weekend ... we'll see, I'm in need of some nice days off work.

I hope you had a peaceful day! My family's activities in the army seem to have ended with both of my grandfathers; my mother's father served in the Canadian Army in WWII but served only in Newfoundland (interestingly, at the time, Newfoundland was not yet a Canadian Province, so he received a medal for serving overseas). My father's father served in Europe, met my grandmother in London (yes, she was a war bride) and stormed Juneau Beach on d-day. He didn't want any of his children serving unless absolutely necessary; as a result, none of us did.
My father was in the military and part of J force that went to Japan at the end of the war saw things he would never talk about and never talked about the military that I remember
I signed up on a whim served mostly in NZ but did three years in Singapore
