For this weeks post, I am sharing some shots of the Gulf Hill dairy Ice cream stand, called the bucket.

It has been around since at least the 1940s and was originally used as the Gulf Hill Dairy ice cream stand.

the bucket was beside the old Gulf Hill Dairy. They had a glass front on the milking building, and you could watch the cows getting milked. They then moved it across the street, on the grounds of a restaurant the dairy built and opened. The restaurant eventually closed, and after a long vacancy a museum moved in. The museum passed the main building on to another organization, and the bucket was moved down the hill to the Apponogansett town beach, which is where it is now.
I didn't know about it I was heading to check out one of the trails, and spotted this and decided to stop and get a few shots of it.
These shots are from two visits there, one day with blue skies and another visit earlier one morning with some nice end of sunrise colors in the sky.

Some info I found at this source
Gulf Hill Dairy was started back in 1896, when a young farmer named Joseph T. Fernandes decided to enter into the dairy business. This man of vision plotted the course and guided the destiny of Gulf Hill Dairy for fifty-two years.

From a one man, one horse and wagon beginning, Gulf Hill Dairy developed into one of New England's most modern, most successful dairy operations.

1946 was a most important year in the history of the Dairy. In that year, the Gulf Hill Dairy introduced homogenized milk in South Eastern Massachusetts.

1962 was another important year in the Dairy's progress. Gulf Hill Dairy was the first in Massachusetts with multi-vitamin milk.

Modernizing the plant, fleet and offices with the newest equipment in the field was always a priority.

On June 26, 1965, another milestone was reached with the opening of Gulf Hill Parlor, an exceptional ice cream parlor and restaurant on Gulf Road in South Dartmouth.

The Milking Showroom was located across the street from the Milk Processing Plant on Gulf Road. Here families enjoyed watching the milking of the cows every afternoon at 4 PM.

The Dairy was sold in 1980 and the restaurant closed in 1981.

"You can whip our cream, but you can't beat our milk"

However the bucket still opens in summer from what I understand

I like how the sign for ordering and pickup, looks hand painted and not stylish printed signs

The gulf hill diary ice-cream is a very big place from what I've seen. How much does it cost to get an ice-cream there?

I am not sur eon the prices, the times I have visited there was early morning before they opened

Okay, I understand. Thanks for sharing it with us here sir.

Wow, such great pictures and historical information, @tattoodjay! I love that tagline:

You can whip our cream, but you can’t beat our milk.

I love quaint historic buildings that have a rich history. The fact that people could go and watch the cows being milked is just amazing.

And how wonderful that they still open in the summers!

That catch line did give me a chuckle I must admit
A pity they dont have the farm nearby is a pity that must have been a cool experience for kids to see

Nice nostalgic ice cream stand. With the '60s roadside attraction vibe. Fun marketplace for the start of summer.

it sure has a 60s feel doesnt it

have a great day and weekend

Beautiful photos.

Entertaining to see the old building with quaint signage for orders and pick-up, nice history attached.

Always sad to hear when business no longer exits, some pride has been taken to move the original to keep the memory alive.

!PIZZA

Yes I agree always sad when a small business closes but glad this stand is still open
I just heard today they have summer concerts in the park by this place

Fun venue to get out to enjoy, don't forget to try that ice-cream hopefully still serve a good one!

If I ever do make it there for a concert, I will no doubt both take photos and try the ice cream :)

Summertime is playtime, enjoy!

That’s my plan 👍😎

What a beautiful building @tattoodjay 😁 and it’s there that long already.
It so stands out the bucket. Very cool.
I like the location and that they also have a terrace area that is covered. Such a luxury.
The photos are wonderful. I like the sunrise one with it’s colours.

Yep, the signs at the windows. So cool to see… it looks handwritten.
Thanks for the additional information. Very helpful.
Have a great Friday further 👋🏻☀️

That's a pretty unique shop... a big bucket!
I wonder what they use it for. Storage, maybe.
Nice photos for #marketfriday, @tattoodjay !

I didnt find out online if the bucket part was used for anything or just to look like a bucket they serve ice cream in

Glad you love Wednesday walk: )

Have a great weekend

Beautiful shots📸🤩😍

thank you
Have a good weekend

Thank you 😍😍😍

Most welcome

What a cute building. I love buildings that tell a story, and this one certainly does. Joseph T. Fernandes was truly a visionary in every sense of the word. I bet he had fun in his business. I love the idea of a glass front where you could watch the cows being milked.

Thanks for sharing! 😃

Isnt it so cool and yes Joseph was clearly an amazing person thinking out of the box

A pity they dont still have the glass window would be a cool learning experience for kids

Thanks kindly your support is appreciated
