The Harsh Beauty of the Northern Monotony

It may seem that the far north is barren and gloomy in its monotony and scarcity of nature. But there is something magical about these vast, desolate landscapes.

I lived in a megalopolis, with its hidden from view horizon and man-made walls mountains in the form of skyscrapers. Hundreds of roofs, millions of windows and kilometers of wires make the landscape saturated, but leave no room for the flight of thought. She is locked in this concrete cage and can't see beyond the tallest skyscraper.

And so, getting to the north knocks you down. Your view is clear and there are no obstacles in its path, all the way to the horizon. Only here you remember how big the world you live in, hundreds of kilometers around nothing. Nothing distracts you from self-awareness. Freedom overwhelms you, emptiness, a pleasant emptiness fills your mind. This is appeasement.

It is all the more wonderful to find in this harsh and ascetic world any distortion of monotony. A small tree in the tundra, a boulder overgrown with moss with a beautiful pattern, a scattering of heather or last year's yagel under your feet, or a small waterfall among the hills. It seems that it makes no sense to move around the far north, given its uniformity. But it is in the search for small differences that you keep moving forward. This is what brought me to the shores of the White Sea last June.

Almost on the very edge of the Kola peninsula there is a small village with the telling name "rybachy" (fisherman). Only 170 km in a straight line from my hometown, but the north creates difficulties and now they turn into 300 km of a winding path. Almost the whole day by car in one direction to go to the sea, the smell and strength of which you feel all the time, living in the heart of the peninsula.

June 16, +10 degrees Celsius, this is a good summer for a northerner. Walk 2 km from the place where I left the car and I take my breath away. Here it is, the coast of the Arctic.

This photo photo is very memorable, but your writing is no less memorable for me, especially when you say the building that covers the horizon there, leaving little room for thought. Extraordinary

Phenomenal images captured along the way on your northern journey to find the perfect local waterfall! @thenortherner

Today my goal is not the sea, my goal is to find a local waterfall, one of those very small differences in the landscape that makes the north so beautiful.

You're welcome and thank you for the kind words!✍

Have a terrific Monday! @thenortherner💫

That small waterfall is beautiful. Wow you are really North. What nationality are you?

It is spring here on P. E. I but still snow on the ground. I’m looking forward to warmer weather but not too hot. We of the North can’t take too much heat. 😊

Haha. Yes, that’s it.

I checked out your location and it looks like a great place to live near the sea with Finland not too far away.

Have a great week ahead.

These are some fantastic shots! I can definitely see how and why it took your breath away! Thanks for sharing here with us.

Wow! Thanks for your kind compliments and i am glad that you took time to go investigate my content. I don't find your encouragement to be impudent at all, but rather motivating and inspirational, to be honest.

I manage and curate the biggest and best Photography Lovers Community... i manage and curate the Alien Art Hive community... i curate the Weekly Splinterlands Art Contest.... i also curate for OCD in all of it's Incubation Program Communities... (or at least the ones that i go and look into in my 'free-time') and now since NFT Showroom has partnered with OCD i will be curating all the NFT Showroom posts as well. I love what i do... but it's burning the candle from 3 ends... and my own posting schedule suffers from it.

I hope to work on and begin to wrap up that latest artwork i've been working on. So, THANK YOU for kicking me in the ass (in a good way) to go get after it.

I didn't look it up or catch it... but where are you from and where were these taken, countrywise. I will be in southern Sweden here in early May. Being from the Deep South in Texas... North is a relative term for me! hahaha
